The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

You'll be fine, it'll be fine. :DYou'll be shocked at how impressed your smokey friend will be if you tell them you have packed up. Think most smokers want to stop they (and me included), like the socialble thing and the all the other stuff that goes with it.....
You can do it, you can do it go Lewki you can do it :beer:0 -
Day 14 or day 3
LEWKI ... you just made it easier for me, same identical situation, friends round, bbq etc, beer etc flowing, everyone having a great time - only difference I didn't buy any, got them from a friend (5 over the course of an afternoon, and very late night.)
I tell you tho' I don't feel guilty or upset - it confirmed to me what i have always known - i enjoy smoking, many others on here have confirmed that as well, but that is not the point perhaps, I am giving up that enjoyment, I don't need it, I will miss it for sure, but I am already past missing the first cigarette of the day, it was habit, nothing more, and many of the other cigs I smoked were just that - a habit.
So for me, smoking those 5 cigarettes was more of a goodbye, that's it!
So day 14 or day 3? Doesn't matter to me tbh - that was it, finished.
That's a great attitude, with that attitude you'll be smoke free sooner rather than later.
I honestly don't think we ever enjoy smoking, I think it's the habit that we all enjoyed, so let's redouble our efforts and we'll all be non smokers!
We need all our n00bs to be strong, you'll notice coming closer to the end of the month that there will be an influx of people looking to stop smoking, you will be the inspiration for them people, they need role models and all our fresh non-smokers will perform that role admirably!0 -
Hello! Newbie joining you!
My 'habit' costs me about £40 per week. My husband smokes the same, so, HUGE chunk out of our budget. My husband isn't ready to stop yet, but he is cutting down to rolling tobacco. Myself, I'm sick of having an acky chest and I'm sick and tired of the taste and smell of it on my clothing. Not to mention the money it's bleeding out of me.
I can't afford it, and so I'm quitting. I cut down yesterday, and finished my pack of cigarettes a couple of hours ago. So, here I am, and already getting anxious.
I have already saved a fiver, because normally I would have bought a pack this morning.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Congratulations, Lewki is round here somewhere as well as well as some other amazing people all supporting and encouraging you.
Its like having big brother sort of watching you, strange feeling but you will understand.:rotfl:0 -
I love that meter you recommended. I just showed my lad it and he's like WOW. He's 13 and has wanted me to stop for a long time. I think that is really going to help that I can see how I'm doingProud to be dealing with my debts :T

Just said this on your thread but its great to see how much you save, makes a big difference to how you feel about not smoking.
And if youre not smoking it means you really can have NSD (well really you can have 2 as Miia said before lol.):T0 -

Welcome along Hawthorn, you'll get great support here. Are you going cold turkey or are you using any aids, like patches, gum, zyban, champix etc.?
The next time you get that urge for a cigarette, if you can, take yourself away from the situation that made you think of smoking. Try and break the connection between certain acts and smoking, you'll find yourself less and less reliant on the cigs and you'll be smoke free as well!
Good luck :beer:0 -
I'm going to try to turkey it. That's how I quit before. I tried to quit last year and I got patches which obviously weren't successful. However, if I do get bad cravings, I can always slap one of those on for a couple of hours or so, I still have some left.
I'll see how I go
Just had my first test. Whilst tea is bubbling in the pot, I usually go and sit outside and have a fag. It's so strange not doing that! Hence, why I came in here LOL. Better go, dinner will be burning if I'm not careful and I don't want to swap one smoke for anotherProud to be dealing with my debts :T
