well have just woke up after a little zzz on the sofa, and have just handed my boyfriend mark my cigarettes as i dont feel like i want one, my quit day is meant to be sunday, so will see how i get on cos if i want one now i will have to go and ask mark for one. And he gave up about 6 months ago by just going cold turkey so he wants me to stop too.0

hi all,
well back from hols and as promised gave up on the 1st, am now on day 9 and am doing ok so far, a few cravings but being away helped so much,
Only problem is all that sun and lack of sleep means ive come back with Tonsilitus - although my desire for fags is completely out of the window as i just dont want to do anything.
well done to everyone who is keeping the quitting torch burning, lol

Good Evening Everyone,
Congratulations on another day passing by as a Non Smoker!. :j :j
Everyone is doing so well... Well Done!. :T :T
Well I have my Champix now, going to start taking them in the morning.. I plan to take them on a full stomach, and with a full glass of water... Any other tips? I also read somewhere that having a cup of coffee with them helps - or did I make that up ??? mmmm...:o
I keep getting scared of taking them, people keep telling me how depressed people become, and how 'they are just not themselves'... So, I will try to monitor my moods...
So if I am posting on here in a few weeks time, and inserting alot of sad faces, please advise me to stop the tablets... ;-). I would hate to feel really sad everyday... Don't mind a few moods, or a bit of unhappiness, but don't want to be properly depressed iykwim...
Almost getting a bit excited about starting my 'big quit'.. Sad, but true!:o
Keep up the great work everyone, chin up!.

Rich - if you think that about AC, try 'The Nicotine Trick' by Neil Casey
I thought the same about AC, but didn't quite 'get it'. The Casey book filled in all the gaps and gives you some instructions at the end to follow. I did and I can honestly say that, apart from the first few days withdrawing, I haven't had a craving since.
Hi TNG,
I had a quick look on line and I think I got the gist of the book, and it certainly whet my apetite. I had thought the same thing; why is it so easy for some people to quit and not others? If the book addresses that question I can imagine it's very effective.
As things are, and I don't want to tempt fate, I think I've got the worst behind me. I finished work early and had a couple of beers in the garden, had a bottle of wine with tea, and we're just going for a walk. Tea time, and first thing in the morning have always been where I've sucumbed, but I seem to have got on top of it this time.:D
Regards

I havent felt depressed at all - in fact im a bit calmer than normal so think it affects everyone different. I was excited about starting too and the tablets have worked better than i thought they would for me.
Good luck for tommorrow xx:j Stopped smoking - 2nd Jan 09:j0 -
Thanks Kirstymccr!
Its really reassuring to hear that the tablets don't change everyones mood for the worst.
This thread is great - Thank you to all... Champix seems to go down well on this thread too which is great to know.

hubby and i just had to pop out for essentials (squash and soup for my poorly tonsils)
and we went to the cigarette counter to pay - i almost said the words "and 20 richmond please" but didnt,
not sure if its bad that im on day 9 and still thinking about it, or good that i stopped myself

Not once in all the time I was taking the champix did I feel that my mood dipped to a point that wasnt normal (and as someone who has been treated for mental health problems for 30 years I think I have some degree of expertise). Im not saying that people are not getting depressed on it but I do feel that some people are feeling the natural blues from quitting and going into panic mode because they have heard such horror stories. Plus I feel that for some its the excuse they need to go back to smoking.
For a few days I did feel totally spaced out and indeed for two days I wasnt fit to drive. Other then that everything else was manageable, the nausea wore off within an hour or so every day and really for the majority of the time I was taking the pills I was really a lot happier then my normal
I too was excited about my quit day and Im now nearly four months smoke free. Good luck and keep the faith that you can do it xxxx0 -
Hello everyone,
I am officially ashamed. Was doing so well (9 days) until b/f stayed last week end, he sat on the doorstep & I had a couple of puffs. It was horrible & I thought I was over it, then sunday we had a big cooked brekkie & before I'd even finished it I knew I had to have a cigarette.
Next thing I know I'm in the garden with a coffee in one hand & a cig in the other.
Was fine all day monday on the nicorette, b/f went home in the evening & I was quite happy. Tuesday I sponged one off a friend - still determined not to buy any. Wednesday I was fine all day. Thursday I had an initial assessment with a counsellor (depression) & by the time I'd given my life story - like interrogation of all your deepest fears & secrets - I just wanted to get home. Next thing I know I'm in the garden working my way through a pack of 10.
I had the last one earlier & I'm so angry at myself when I was doing so well so starting again tomorrow.
Any tips on dealing with stressful situations greatly appreciated.
Well done to everyone whose not as pathetic & weak willed as me
lula0
