(2nd attempt, first one disappeared,so mad  )
Hi Guys,
Been a lurker for ages, decided it was time to register. Here goes.
I started on Champix just over 2 weeks ago now, stopped smoking last Thursday. Im just worried about how im feeling. Im really down all the time, crying at the stupidest thing (britains got talentfor example) and once i start i cant stop. Ive lost all interest in everything, including in the bedroom department. Everything and everyone really gets on my nerves. My work is being affected, i got pulled for something horrendous today. Smoking is constantly on my mind. I gave up beacuse of the cost but if i could afford it, id smoke (that sounds terrible)
This is my 3rd attempt at quitting. First time i stopped for 10 months and felt great, like id never smoked before. 2nd time was around a year ago, used patches for about a month and felt as bad then as i do now. My partner, who has never smoked, keeps asking me whats wrong but feel i cant tell him its due to me stopping smoking, he wont understand. Its hard to explain it to someone who has never smoked. He thinks we have problems in our relationship because im so down and thinks its because of him why im like what i am.
We missed our cessation clinic this week because of the Bank Holiday. I couldnt tell my counsellor anyway, id just be a blubbering wreck.
I just want to feel normal, what ever that is. Do i just need to "pull myself together"? Is it all in my head??
Sorry for rambling.
Hi Leeds lass,
Sorry to hear how your feeling, I know EXACTLY how your feeling as I took Champix for a week and half and was the same, it effects different people in different ways, naturally your going to feel depressed when you stop smoking but these made me feel shocking an because of how they made me feel i just wanted to smoke like normal, i had no motivation or will power to do anything, never mind trying to stop smoking. I just cried at everything and for nothing. My partner finally plucked up the courage to tell me to pull myself together and he thought the tablets were making me depressed, so I instantly stopped taking them as they obviously weren't working for me and i went back to the stop smoking clinic and got the inhalator and it is brilliant! I would honestly recommend it f the tablets aren't suiting you, they don't work for everyone!

oh my god, my friend just came round round and offered me a normal ciggie as i have been smoking menthol ones for the last few days,i had a couple of drags on it and it was disgusting, i felt really ill after smoking it. Time to ditch these menthol ones i think and buy normal ones because if they taste that bad i dont want to smoke another one. Did anyone else find fags started to taste disgusting.0

Ahh..good eve yellowmonkey, feedumall and Kirsty! Woohoo, people in the evening :j
Anybody else find the evening the hardest part of the day for not smoking? Time can drag once dinner, etc, are done and I find myself at a loose end. I'm even going to bed earlier through boredom some nights! Wish I could get out during the eves, but once littlen is in bed, I'm a bit stuck (single parent and all that).
feedum - I've had a few rough bits, if only I could chop my head off I'd be fine :rotfl: . I think LeedsLass is topping the difficult times bit at the mo.
Kirsty - Know exactly what you mean about it not being like you're giving something up. I think that's the secret of Champix...I don't feel any different to before I smoked and I don't crave them, just miss them at certain times and when I'm doing nothing. Can't expect the earth in 10 days, after being a regular smoker for 25 years  . Please, no-one add up how much that has cost me
Oh yes Naomi..what's a dangle. Another intrigued one here!
Hi Ali,
I comepletely agree about the evenings; they're by far the hardest for me too. We didn't open a bottle of wine at tea time, and that helped until about 7:30pm, but after that I was "crawling the walls". I felt really irritable, grumpy and just about every other negative emotion you could care to name.
One thing I realised last night is that I've always confused the side effects of nicotine withdrawal with the accompanying cravings. What I mean is, the light headedness, headaches, blurred vision, tingling or however nicotine withdrawal affects an individual are physical side effects. That voice in your head that tells you "it's pointless trying to stop", "just a pack of 10 will be o.k", "you've had a hard day, you deserve a smoke" are cravings; they're not physical, they're psychological.
For me, the physical withdrawal symptoms can be unpleasant, but manageable; what I find difficult to come to terms with is that annoying little voice in my head. Having recognised that, I have found it easier today to ignore that voice when it "pipes up".
I'm sure I've stated the obvious above, but I must admit it has never actually occurred to me.
Another 3 hours and I'll have been smoke free for 48 hours, and not had a drink since Monday evening.

You feeling a bit like this Richard?
Hi all .. well done on another non smoking day..
LeedsLass, Carly is spot on with what she said.. though Champix is great for a lot of people.. it's not right for some.
It'd be best to see your nurse/counsellor (not sure who it is that started you on champix) so they can help with possible other methods.:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -

Seems to effect different people in different ways.
With me it was always the physical cravings that were the bit that gave me trouble. That's probably why NRT worked for me.
The psychological stuff I could cope with, as long as there was something to damp down the physical cravings/withdrawal.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
