Well done Richard! That's some willpower you're employing there!

According to the reference sheets I have here, nicotine is no longer detectable in the body after 48 hours, though our bodies take approx 4 WEEKS to completely adjust...extra oxygen, speed of blood pumping round, dealing with the ups and downs of life...it just got a whole lot different (and better) and we may experience a variety of symptoms as the adjustment process takes place.

Have a good day everyone and I'll pop in tonight with my daily update.

Things seem to be going to plan. I'm fairly certain that I've read that the majority of nicotine is out of your system within 72 hours of quitting. Having used NRT previously and not succeeded, I decided this time that if I could make it past the 72 hour point, my chances of quitting will be greatly improved.

Had last cigarette at about 2:00pm yesterday, and didn't have any real serious cravings until getting home from work about 6:30pm. Instead of opening a bottle of wine, and risking the alcohol weakening my resolve, I went and did some gardening; nothing much, just enough to keep me occupied. Would normally have finished the wine off with another smoke after tea, but no wine, no craving.:D

We went for a long walk after tea, and then had an early night, and I never even bothered with a "nightcap". Had something of an unsettled night, but not as bad as I thought it would be, and not bad at all to say that I'd had nothing to drink and hadn't had a smoke for most of the day.

That's a saving of almost a pack of twenty, £5.75, a pack of mints £0.36, bottle of wine £3.50 and "wee" nightcap £1.50. Total £11.11:eek:

The cravings at the moment are really bad, they almost feel like waves washing through me, and I feel incredibly light headed. Fortunately I've got a meeting starting at 10:00am and some work to do for it beforehand, so there's not going to be much time for dwelling on how I feel.

Good luck to everyone, and another few hours I'll be part of the more than one day club.:D :D

    Richard

    :T :T Really well done Richard ..

Here's a little fact sheet that might help
    Time since quitting
Beneficial health changes that take place
    8 hours
Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood reduce by half, oxygen levels return to normal. Circulation improves.
    24 hours

Carbon monoxide and nicotine eliminated from the body.

    48 hours
The decline in lung function and excess risk of lung cancer halts.

    1 month
Appearance improves – skin loses its grayish pallor and becomes less wrinkled

    3 - 9 months
    Coughs and wheezing declines

    1 year

The excess risk of a heart attack reduces by half compared to that of a smoker.

    15 years
Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.

Well done to everyone for another smokefree day :j

For all you just starting or just about to start you are making such a brilliant decision you should give yourselves a big pat on the back :):)

    ONE WEEK TODAY!!!!!!

Hello all! I can't believe that it's been a week!
(well, in just under 3 hours it will be!)

I've missed smoking terribly, but I have loved that I don't smell, my mouth doesn't taste funny all the time, I can breath better and I am £21.00 better off!

Ulcers have been bad this week though and I had a couple of funny days since the weekend as I haven't had any nicotine gum. I didn't plan it, I just got to the end of yesterday and thought, oh! I haven't had any gum for 2 days!

I've put on about 4 or 5 pounds, I think, but nothing to drastic yet...

I hope everyone is having a good day... keep it up!!!
Together we CAN do this!!! :D

    today's stats for LP:

6 days, 21 hours, 17 minutes and 47 seconds smoke free.

    69 cigarettes not smoked.
£21.00 and 12 hours of my life saved.

Richard well done, you're doing fantastic, try your best to keep your mind elsewhere, if you must think about smoking set yourself small targets, for example, I''ll not smoke until lunchtime, when lunchtime comes around tell yourself you'll not smoke til later in the afternoon, keep challenging yourself and you'll come through this!

:j Many congratulations Little Pickle :j , a week is a long time to go without smoking as you well know so you must be so proud of yourself. :j Don't worry about putting on an extra few pounds, concentrate on stopping smoking, we'll get you back in trim afterwards!

I haven't weighed myself since I quit, what with being a bloke and all :p , but I'm wearing a new pair of trousers I got at Christmas and they're a bit more snug than when I bought 'em, think I'm going to have to take advantage of the good weather and start running again

How're all the oldies getting on today? I've been without Champix since Thursday (too lazy to go to the chemists to pick it up) and haven't found it too tough!

Got a stag to go to this weekend as well so there may be a little bit of temptation thrown my way but I'm determined to be strong!

Have a great smoke free day everyone :T

    Hi Doltage,
My nurse told me she'd pull me off champix after one more month and that was a week and a half ago .. basically have 20 days worth of pills left.

I think I could probably go without them on some days but on others definitely not so rather than have my intake keep changing I figure i'll just take them til the 20 days are up.
