I had last cigarette after lunch about an hour ago, and I can already feel the "itch". It's fairly easy not to sucumb at work but the first big test will be tea time. Opening a bottle of wine and having a smoke as soon as getting home from work seems to be something of a reward for putting up with another day.

I'm going to keep myself busy in the garden during the evening and skip a bottle of wine completely. The next big challenge will be first thing tomorrow morning. Normal routine is a cup of coffee and a smoke and then open my eyes.:D :D By then it'll be almost 18 hours nicotine free, and once I get to work it's easier to manage without.

This time I'm not going for NRT or any other medication, just plenty of fruit juice and maybe one of those squeezy balls when the little monster comes calling.

I have to say I feel more confident this time than on previous attempts.

    hi all

LP - I think that you are experienceing a little light-headedness as there is more oxygen getting up there. Although you are still getting the nicotine, there are countless other chemicals and such that were in your cigarette that you are now, happily, free from.

Just accept it as a temporary state. Once your body adjusts you'll be fine (unless your body is returning to normal and you were forgetful before you started smoking :D :rotfl:)

Hope everyone else is doing well :T :T

Hi Little Pickle... i can't really help i'm afraid as didnt do patches so don;t know what the side effects are... but it doesn't sound too unreasonable be forgetful etc

I found this table of side effects and it does say that 60% of people suffer poor concentration which could quite easily contribute to forgetfulness etc :)

The feeling like crying side effect is very normal :)

    Hi All
Day 4 of Champix - i need to take another tablet tonight - im sure i read on here that its best to take after dinner. I have eaten much less today as iv been at work but have smoked more than yesterday , not as many as before taking the champix though. There are reasons i felt stressed today and its not the norm so im not too worried about it. Hope everyone else is doing ok

Naomi - sorry to hear about your side effects, just think how great you'll feel once your free from nicotine!

Richard - Congrats on going cold turkey - hope it goes well

    Evening All!

Day 9 and I saw the No Smoking Counsellor today. Seems most of the things I am experiencing (eye spasms, etc) are not Champix, but the body adjusting to no nicotine or chemicals. Carbon monoxide reading at 2 today :j , yippee, anything 5 or under is for a non-smoker. Next appt in 4 weeks, with a 2 week phone call inbetween. Feeling good today after a weekend of struggling a bit.

Kirsty - taking Champix after a meal and at least 4 hours before sleep has been recommended by my counsellor as being the best way to avoid the side effects of nausea and the odd dreams.

Well done everyone on progress :T

Things seem to be going to plan. I'm fairly certain that I've read that the majority of nicotine is out of your system within 72 hours of quitting. Having used NRT previously and not succeeded, I decided this time that if I could make it past the 72 hour point, my chances of quitting will be greatly improved.

Had last cigarette at about 2:00pm yesterday, and didn't have any real serious cravings until getting home from work about 6:30pm. Instead of opening a bottle of wine, and risking the alcohol weakening my resolve, I went and did some gardening; nothing much, just enough to keep me occupied. Would normally have finished the wine off with another smoke after tea, but no wine, no craving.:D

We went for a long walk after tea, and then had an early night, and I never even bothered with a "nightcap". Had something of an unsettled night, but not as bad as I thought it would be, and not bad at all to say that I'd had nothing to drink and hadn't had a smoke for most of the day.

That's a saving of almost a pack of twenty, £5.75, a pack of mints £0.36, bottle of wine £3.50 and "wee" nightcap £1.50. Total £11.11:eek:

The cravings at the moment are really bad, they almost feel like waves washing through me, and I feel incredibly light headed. Fortunately I've got a meeting starting at 10:00am and some work to do for it beforehand, so there's not going to be much time for dwelling on how I feel.

Good luck to everyone, and another few hours I'll be part of the more than one day club.:D :D

    Richard
