I think stopping affects people in different ways, physically. The body has a fair amount of repair work to do (complete underpinning and renovation in my case :o) and this will make you more susceptible to minor aches and pains.

I personally wouldn't worry about it, but if you're not happy, get checked.

thanks TNG... it's the gum that's causing the problem... I get the tight throat only when I chew the gum...

    AHHHH!!!!

I just read the leaflet again and must have missed this bit...

Nicorette Gum is not chewed like normal gum.
If you chew as normal gum the nicotine is released too quickly and is swallowed. This will effect your THROAT, stomach and sometimes give you hiccups...

then next page has instructions on how to chew!!!
    silly me!!!

Hello everyone - day 8 without smoking now :j.

Feedumall - thanks for the tip about broken biscuits had no idea calories all fell out, now very happy as have just munched my way through 2 (broken) chocolate brownies.

Little pickle - thanks for the query about the lumpy throat, I am such a donut too:o , have felt like i have a golf ball in my throat for last week & now i know why... doh !

good news is i filled the car up with fuel & managed to not buy any cigs. Did then have to make a mad dash to chemist to stock up on nicorette so pretty expensive day really, £30 on fuel & another £5 on gum but hey, dont need to go near petrol station for a couple of weeks & hope by then will be over that particular temptation.

Well done evryone for getting through another smoke free day :D

Nearly the end of Day 4 not smoking. Woo-hoo!

Getting closer to the weekend, though the first one of not smoking, so I may just have to throw myself into sanding down paintwork/decorating to keep me busy. Or a 3 day shopping fest in an MSE kinda way ;)

Money saved so far £81.72 (which includes the cutting down period before stopping). Oh my goodness! Really excited about my appt to the Cessation Clinic next Tues as my carbon monoxide reading will be in the 'non smoker' bracket :j

Well done to all the smoke-busters and busters to be! (I feel a song coming on - Smoker Busters aka Ghostbusters :rotfl: )
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    Evening all

Thought I would just pop in to say that I am still a happy non smoker with the following stats:

    Time not smoked - 1month, 2wks, 1d, 23hrs, 13mins.
    Amount saved - £220.55
    Cigarettes not smoked - 939
    Life saved - 3days, 6hrs, 15mins (I was a 20 a day smoker).

I am really pleased with myself - I won't lie, it hasn't been easy, especially as my husband has continued to smoke but then they say nothing worth having is! Something that helped me was actually spending the money I saved. For the first month I spent loads on lovely things - now I am concerntrating on saving and paying off my debts.

I am feeling much healthier and happier. I have no idea of I have put weight on as I stayed away from the scales ;) .

Keep on going, fellow non smokers, it is well worth it.

    Well done viktory :D

relieved to hear that you're still going strong in spite of O/H. My smoking B/F is due to stay this week end & frankly I'm nervous, he's been away on a course since sunday so I havent encountered any smokers since then.

He's been very 'encouraging' about me giving up; his last words on the matter were " yeh, you should quit, it's not doing anything for your looks" .
I'm hoping that was an attempt at aversion therapy.

well the day is here! yesterday i only had 4 cigs & TBH i dont think i "really" wanted them, the last one last night i had great pleasure in saying "this is my last cig"

i was concearned yesterday that i would struggle this morning because i "used" (using past tense!!) to come down stairs, put the kettle on, switch my pc on & go outside for a cig, (in that order lol) usually the cravings are terrible in a morning but this morning i didnt really do anything different i just didnt go out for a cig & TBH i don't even feel like i want one either. I do think that is partly the champix & partly my positive attitude

i know this is going to be a tough journey but i am determind to do this,

well done to all my fellow non-smokers keep up the good work!
