speaking of the mind games...the tricks that my head is playing on me have now changed completely...instead of thinking
    'i need a cigarrette but I can't because I have stopped smoking'
    I am thinking
'I don't need a cigarette because I don't smoke but it would be nice to just try one wouldn't it??? I'd enjoy just the one wouldn't I?'

That's a common one, MFD. Usually kicks in around the 4-5 week mark. Brain says "Ooooh I've cracked it - and just to prove it, I'm going to have a ciggy :wall:"

Don't get taken in by it. Your brain will do dreadful things to you over the next couple of weeks, but so long as you KNOW that it is happening and what it is, you can anticipate it and deal with it!

((((mumzy)))) - glad you're better today.

it is tough about this time, obsessing about cigs hundreds of times aday but it does get better it just takes time it gets easier but you dont always notice it right away, in a weeks time you may only think about one hundred times instead of several, that still sound alot but it keeps reducing steadily. anyhow good luck for today its nearly 10 already
smoke free since 16 feb 08

waspeze - try using this tough time to think about how much cigarettes actually ruled your life before you quit. You will be thinking about them constantly now - the fact is you probably always were...any of these sound familiar

'I'll just do this then I will have a cig'
'I am visitng x later and I can't smoke at their house, so I will have a cig (before I go??) then (one on the way??) and then (I will leave after x long)...'

If it is not one of the above it will be something else - we have been changing our lives to fit in the cigarettes for years so it is natural that we think about them all the time.

A couple of my terrible habits were:
    - having a cigarette before I left the house (my 'going out' cigarrette) and then lighting up another in the car!!!
    - waving goodbye to DH as he took DSS home, then rushing outside for cigarette because if I timed it right I could have (and enjoy smoking) 3 before he got back.
    - always suggesting a 5 minute 'comfort break' about an hour into a meeting so I could go outside for a fag :o

You will begin to think about it less and less, bu you need to stay strong and remember why you are quitting in the first place.

I'm off to see nursie this afternoon - and I am looking forward to blowing into the machine for the first time (although if it is not 0 I think I will cry :o )

Morning all..I am now on day 2....awoke with a terrible headache.so guess it must be the toxins or stress from not smoking.
I went to bed and didn't get up until about 9.15am!!!!....it seems to be easing a bit now and will go for a walk in a bit.Am having today off as I got up late and tomorrow is my day off anyway so chance to get over the worst days...it's ok for me to be off as it's my own taxi.
You are all doing well ...and this thread is really helping...
Just wondering whether a sauna/steam room will help eliminate the toxins quicker?..i have a membership to the gym so it won't cost me anything anyway..
Lets have a good day today.

That is sooo right MFD, one of the lesser (though important) reasons i'm giving up is coz most of my friends have kids now, i don't, and whenever i go round their houses i'm always really self concious about smelling of ciggies.. i definitely used to have a quick one outside before i knocked on their door, then stand there for five minutes after i'd finished trying to blow all the smoke out and wafting my clothes so i wouldn't smell too bad in front of the kids!!

Hi Taxi, I read somewhere that the headaches are sometimes due to more oxygen getting through to your brain (and no carbon monoxide), sure someone will confirm this though! Though stress etc sounds likely too :)

    Well done on day 2!!

Sauna can't hurt, can it taxi? :) Might as well.....

And look on ANY abnormalities with your body as a good thing! Your body and brain are adjusting. Getting back to normal. Accept that there may be a bit of weirdness for a few days

    You're all doing really really well :T :T :T :T
