when I went to the DRs he said the first two weeks are the hardest...so I hope I can hold it together with my passengers!!!...feeling a bit jittery at the moment but hopefully it will pass

Hi taxi and well done for day one! You'll feel a little jittery for the first days and that's to be expected, but - it WILL soon pass and then you'll be feeling so much better and you'll feel totally different. Clean is the best for me to describe it, take plenty of water and flush yourself through!

All the very best and remember that all of us here - are with you for the ride!!:D

Love and hugs, Sue.
Hi everyone
Recently discovered this thread and hoping for some help/advice/support.

I started smoking 7yrs ago, then managed to quit in November 2005. However 7 month ago I started again. Really stupid...don't I know it. Now I'm having a hard time quitting again.
I read the first couple of pages in this thread and tried a few of the help pages. I also ordered some materials and stuff through the post.
Still I can't seem to find the strength to stop. It's so much harder this time.
I should quit for so many reasons. I got two young children and are 6month pregnant with my 3rd.
Only smoke 5-6 fags a day so it shouldn't be to hard. The problem is I can go most of the day without one, but when the evening comes, the children are in bed and I can sit down and relax I can't stop my self.
This is usually the same time my husband comes home from work as well and he smokes. I tried to encourage him to quit and do it together but he finds it harder, he has smoked 20 a day for the last 13yrs.
Got debt free last year and we now need the money for a new kitchen (ripped ours out last summer and have still not replaced it, and doing the dishes in the bathtub upstairs for the last 8 month have not been fun) still all this is not big enough incentive for me to stop.

The doctors are reluctant to help me this time since I'm pregnant, last time I did it with help of patches and it only took 2 weeks.
I've tried to occupy my hands in the evenings, reading, knitting etc still nothing seems to work.
Hi greenpixey,

It's good to see you here and you look as though you're so close to being able to quit again and we'll all give you plenty of support along the way. You're doing so well through the day so at the time of night when hubby comes home and you both sit down to relax with a ciggie - why not go make it a rule to always go outside and smoke. That way you'll take it away from the home (and the children) and it'll soon become less of a habit and easier to break - for you both.

You're doing great by trying to keep your hands occupied, keep those things up and think of others to keep the mind as well as the hands absorbed; any good at jigsaws?or messing with play dough? Anything that works for you, it doesn't matter how silly you may think it is, you're doing it for a reason and that's all that counts! Just remember one thing - you made it once and with a little one coming along - you can do it again!

We're all right here with you so keep strong! I'll send you some notes to help.

Love and hugs, Sue.

Does anyone remember that song 'One day at a time, sweet jey-zuss' might have been country and western???? :o:o:oI'll get me coat!!!

Hiya MFD,

I know someone already answered your question, but here it is in full and the chorus is a pretty good (whatever it's called.....mantra I suppose ) to have on the quitting smoking thread.

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from you
Just give me the strength to do every day what I have to do
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus
Tomorrow may never be mine
Lord help me today
Show me the way
One day at a time

....ah there you are mumzy!

I wouldn't mind betting it's a combination of quitting, then restarting for a short while, then back to the patches. Why not take it off for tonight and start afresh in the morning after a night's sleep to separate the cigs from the patches.

All being well, come the morning, on with the patch and back in the circle and try to keep up with quitting. Plenty of water don't forget! You have the strength and resolve to carry it through mumzy and we're all here for you too.

Love and hugs, Sue
