It was a big day... but had to be done! The future is looking a lot brighter because of it and WHEN (not if!!) I succeed with the giving up smoking then at least something positive will have come out of it all!!

    Evening all

Just thought i would drop in and say hello :hello: and congratulations on the giving up! You are all doing brilliantly.

For those that are scared of stopping - don't be scared. You are freeing yourself from the prison of cigarettes and there is nothing to be afraid of. The wirthdrawal pangs are not that bad - the hardest part is the mind games when you start to tell yourself that smoking is not really that bad etc. As another poster said an e-mail or letter to yourself reminding yourself why you are stopping is a real help. Personally I did a table on Word, with the left hand column stating the reasons for giving up and the right hand column stating reasons for not giving up. There is nothing in the right hand column!

Anyway, that's my two pennorth. Just remember - it gets easier and is well, well worth it. Personally, I have never had so much money in my purse!

I was doing so well - 5 months and was getting to the point when I couldn't remember what on earth I found so necessary about the dratted things.
My only defence was that I was home for five weeks as my Mum was dying. She had had many things wrong with her but her heart started to fail and I was told in early November that she was close to the end. Because it was heart failure I was able to keep a promise that if possible she would die at home. The only problem with that was that smoking rels and friends were incredibly supportive and came every day to see me. I hadn't had much sleep for two weeks and threatened a friend with physical harm if she didn't give me a cigarette at that instant. That was it!!
I am person without willpower - I can't discipline myself to one or two, I got to guzzle the whole pack!! I've been saying that after the funeral, after the interment, after the house settles down to a new routine (Mum lived with us as she was so ill) I would give up and sort myself out. In work we have to get in our cars and drive off the premises to have a fag, so costing even more- that stop me, now be serious!!
Yesterday I was feeling I could do anything so gave up. Today, my delightful students met their deadlines for emailing coursework and by 8 am I had 20 short stories to mark and send back. Was my first port of call the kettle? No, it was the garage for 10 (at least I showed some willpower there).
I have just finished marking and returning the work and looked at the packet to have a celebratory cig - yep you have guessed it, I've smoked the lot!!
So here I am again, feeling somewhat daft that having gone through the trauma and my kids having just about survived the last giving up, that they are once again going to have to deal with a wreck of a mother who wanders around muttering that she loved smoking and didn't see why on earth she had to give up, paying off debts was a stupid reasson to quit!!
Luckily my 11 and 6 year old are fairly sensible creatures and just turn the tv up louder!! They have also just got a trampoline so I suspect that will be their refuge!!
I am really impressed at all of the people who are still on here and who have remained weed free - you are my heroes and I will follow your example - thank you.
Am off to delete the silk quit meter that I had left running from last year - apparently I could have save nearly £2000 by now - don't you just hate smug programs?
Take care everyone and keep on battling.
    Tilly
    xx

*shuffles off muttering 'I will do it, I will do it'*

:grouphug: Huge hugs Tilly and no shame - don't beat yourself up - just chill for a while and refocus. Life has been tough on you so you need time to recover - your "forever quit" time will come!
    love and hugs
