Hi all
jet I know what you mean about being p'd off, me too! I'm fortunate have not been around any smokers since I stopped - went to the pictures last night (Die Hard 4 - excellent) and a drink too and wasn't bothered by the smoking ban lol!!! My cravings hit at peculiar times and often with no warning, if I'm alone I just growl and breathe through them but if anyone is around then god help them!!!!
Jo had a look at that site, they should show it on tv it was excellent!
Love to all

me and my twin have done this together and were both on the gum, had patches last time and they were'nt for me.
A few words of encouragement, we are the best and we will continue to be non smokers one day at a time. everytime you think you want a cig, stop and think about kissing someone who has just had a fag. DISGUSTING!!Terrimundi saver :money:

Hi,
I just wanted to come on coz I feel like I need a bit of a kick up the ar**. I think if I leave my money/card at home I should be safe as holding up the local newsagent for 20 Richmond just isn't really worth it. (IS IT???). I think I'm due on as well so I just feel generally sh**ty and spotty and teary. I keep waking up and crying in the middle of the night.
Anyway.............DAY 2 for me and my biggest problem which always gets me smoking again is the kids. I know they are also one of the biggest reasons I'm giving up, but when I feel myself getting snappy with them and I know it's just because I hvnt had a fag it makes me want to go and scav one off sm innocent passer by. I think I'm going to be evil - no fags and PMT - usually just the PMT would be enough to set people running from me when they see me coming!! Do u think 'I was giving up smoking m'Lud' would stand up in a court of law for violent crime?
I too am going cold turkey. I tried patches a couple of years ago and because I (only) smoke about 10 a day they seemed to be giving me too much nicotine and made me feel really sick. I ended up smoking with the patch which I know is terrible.
I was going to try gum but then when I read the ingredients on the sample in the Boots pack it didn't have nicotine in it anyway - just lots of E numbers - so I've just bought some normal chewing gum and am going to have one of them.
Someone at work was saying that if she gets a really bad craving she pretends to have just had a fag and be putting it out. She says this really helps psycologically (sp?). When I gave up properly last time (10+ years ago - God I'm getting old!!) I used to work in a pub and I used to get an ashtray, dampen it and smell it and think that I didn't want my breath to smell like that.
Good Luck for today every1.

Morning all
How is everyone? All well with me, although stressing cause ds no1 has tickets for Live Earth tomorrow and no transport and all coaches etc fully booked. Seems a tad hypocritical driving him (not to mention expensive) as its about saving the planet!! But hoh hum!! Well done Jet you are doing so well, love the putting a fag out idea, I have been know to inhale a biro before now - lol!
Welcome edsjad you're in the right place for mutual support, as far as I'm aware smoking cessation (sp) clinics are run by nhs and available in most health authority areas - but I might be wrong? Try giving your gp or local hospital a ring they will have no's for all the help out there - and there's loads! Internet also a good place to search lots of advice to be had, I'm no good at adding links but the first page of this forum has a whole list of them certainly worth a look - good luck!
Take care all.

hi - just discovered this forum - want to give up - soon - what's the smoking cessation clinic - did you discover it on the web - is it private etc any info you can share that might help me? I like the idea of joining something with people, as well as this forum. thanks. jaquie
Hi Jaquie and welcome
Go to your local authority's website or look in a local newspaper and they should list the number of your local PCT (primary care trust) which is the part of the council that deals with health matters, ie docs, clinics etc. If you can't find anything ring your GP's receptionist who should have the number for you, if you ask them for the local smoking cessation clinic they should have the direct number anyway. If all else fails, have a look at the first message on this thread, there is a list of national organisations on there, probably ASH would be a good one, ask them if they have your local clinic numbers on their database. Good luck
Jet, don't worry mate we all know what you are going on about! I'm doing this for my kids really (I know we're meant to be doing it for ourselves but my kids are more important to me than that!!) but they are the ones that bear the brunt of it unfortunately. This will pass (hopefully :undecided)

Evening all
I've been in a right grump tonight, I know a fag isn't the answer but Mr O'Teen is making me think it would help ... lol!!! I've been so busy today, haven't stopped since 7.15am and I'm knackered and p**** off!! But apart from that I'm fine ... ha,ha!!!
Hope you're all doing well.
Take care.

This is really hard isn't it, but at least we're doing it and it's gotta get better at some point surely? Our bodies must get used to not smoking, guess it just takes time. So I'm definately in the same camp as youDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
