I watched Tonight with Trevor Macdonald last night, which had Liz Dawn on there talking about how smoking has ruined her life, so i have decided to give it a good go and pack in the cancer sticks. I have a patch on my arm, am moody, sweating already and feel like screaming at anyone who looks at me the wrong way, but on the good side - i am drinking lost more water and sucking sugar free sweets to keep me busy. I really want to succeed this time, I don't want to end up having to put an oxygen mask on my face in the mornings and not being able to climb the stairs without having a breather. Wish me luck !!!!If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0

good luck WC and keep posting here are plenty on here to offer you good solid advice.
Bev, yes i failed to mention i could eat a horse day or night:D but i am sure i can get rid of excess weight quickly. But for me its one thing at a time, i have made the error of trying to pack in the cigs and trying to loose weight at the same time, it just doesn't work for me
The dreams have calmed down now and still feel ok if not a bit tired all the time.
Keep at it and good luck0 -
I gave up smoking Friday 1st Feb! Day 5 today and I'm so shocked that I am mananging well, so far of course! Saved £28 so far so going to get my nails done as a treat on Friday!
My pharmacy are doing a scheme where you pay just £10 for 8 weeks worth of patches, you have to go in once a week for breath test thingy(sorry don't know the technical name for it!) and then pick up your next 7 days supply.
It has really motivated me and I am so smug lol!0 -
Hi all,
Welcome to all the newbies  good luck to you all
welsh_cake, yes that interview with Vera was very disturbing, I hope that many other people have a reaction like you and decide to quit.

I don't recognise most names, but I hope you succeed in your quit and stay strong.
Hi Adz
I'm still here - more lurking than posting these days though!;) The thread is buzzing and there's much good advice to be had - how are you doing?
Hi Jo Joeh Lurkio YM - nobody deliberately left out just too many to mention! 7 months and 1 week for me now :j and saved £957.47 (not saved actually- how did I ever afford to smoke :rotfl: ) - I have however booked a cheapie coach holiday to Spain in August for the family - couldn't have done that this time last year the fags alone were costing almost £60 a week!! Still have the odd pang but nothing I can't deal with!
Take care and happy smokefree days.
IDA

Hi becky and well done! Is it the carbon monoxide test? i can't wait to have mine done but have to wait another 3 weeks for my appointment, it was "disturbingly high" which was a main factor in me quitting, does it lower quite quickly?0

Hey Jo, JoeHel & Ida
What happened to TNG and that other person who took a dislike to me?0 -
Hi all. Just thought I'd swing by and wish everyone who's in the process of giving up lots and lots of luck. I gave up over a year ago and, far from wishing to sound patronizing or boastful, feel so much better for it, physically, mentally and financially. You will not regret it.
To those of you who had a cigarette because you were upset, or because of vast amounts of stress or bad things in your life, ask yourself this - did smoking that cigarette remove the cause of the upset or stress, or the bad event from occurring? No, of course it didn't. Did smoking the cigarette make you feel any better? I'd guess it made you feel a whole lot worse. So far from being a failure, you have in fact taught yourself a valuable lesson - that you don't need cigarettes.
Three days. That's how long it takes for the nicotine to completely leave your system. After that, any "craving" you get is NOT a craving for a cigarette - if you have one, it will make you feel worse (and not just because you feel guilty for having a cigarette!)
I was always the guy people said would, or could, never quit, but I managed it. I know it's a cliché, but if I can do it you can!
Good luck everybody
