  • I just wanted to echo what's been said by Lurkio and Emmy.
You'll do it when you're good and ready, if you try to do it before then because you feel you ought to, then you're bound to fail.

You want to give up and some basic level because you're on here reading what other people are writing about giving up, that's got to be a start hasn't it? You're not just burying your head in the sand.

Hey Everyone, how are we all in smoke-free corner?

I've been hiding for a while because I was too ashamed to admit that I haven't quit smoking yet.:o
Lurkio - I haven't even picked the book up yet that you so kindly sent to me. Why? I don't know. Fear?
I don't know what my problem is. I want to quit, I know all of the negatives of smoking, and I read through this thread and see how happy you all are to be finally free, but something inside me won't let it happen. What have I got to be afraid of? Why can't I pick up that book?

    Please help :(

I remember when I was in that exact same position with the Allen Carr book. I know it sound bizarre, but it took me about 10 months to start reading it because a huge part of me was scared it WOULD work!!! It didn't occur to me that reading the book would give me the tools to be happy about quitting. All I could think was that I would read this hugely successful book and either

    (a) I wouldn't "get it" and it would just prove I was stupid... or
    (b) Everyone would see me reading it and pressure me to quit before I was ready or keep asking me about it ... or
    (c) I would actually do it, but then I'd be left without my beloved ciggies!!!

None of those options seemed very inviting at the time...

My advice would be, just start reading it. You are NOT saying you will quit and if anyone asks you, you can just say you are curious and it does NOT mean you are definitely quitting. Or read it when you have some quiet time by yourself. Just take it slowly and concentrate on the message you're reading. Smoke while you're reading - it's allowed!! I puffed the whole way through the Allen Carr book!!!! Reading the book doesn't mean you HAVE to quit!!

The book might do it for you, or it might not. I read the Allen Carr book twice, then moved on to reading lots on WhyQuit.com. I read stuff 'til it came out of my ears and it has made my quit so much easier.

When you feel ready, just have a read. You'll never know unless you give it a go! ;)

Oh, and the reason it's so hard to think about quitting is that you're addicted to a drug which you THINK has given you a lot of comfort in the past and you THINK you'll have to live without that comfort. The truth is, once you free your body of nicotine you feel that comfort ALL THE TIME and you don't need drug fixes any more...

  • Oh god my head is banging this morning - this is my third day of non smoking. I have been awake since 5.00am. I am dreading the weekend - somehow i think it is going to be harder trying to stay off the fags when i am not in work, but i am planning on taking my dog for a nice long walk. I daren't go out with my friends at the moment, because i really don't think i would give in to the tempation.
Your all doing so well on here and every time I feel like throwing the towel in, i just read over some of your posts and it makes me want to succeed again.
Gosh, i hope this headache goes soon !
If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A

  • Morning welsh cake and hi.. :hello: well done for giving up...... it WILL get easier I promise you. It's because you are thiking about it constantly as you do for the first couple of weeks and that does give you a headache !! also as Joehel will tell you the nicotine takes 3 days to get out of your system- so it wil be gone by the end of today and you are smoke free !!

stay strong... don't give in like I did- it was HORRIBLE for anyone that wanted to know- really hurt my throat and for a couple of days afterwards I couldn't breathe deeply again. I felt really unfit and actually really unwell.. Although that could have been the hangover lol.... only joking, don't do it its awful !!:eek:

    have a good day all...:D

  • Basilcat - really pleased to hear from you, I thought for a while that you'd gone back to smoking! What a relief to know that you're still with us!

Welsh-Cake - I had trouble with disturbed sleep patterns for week or so, but it soon settles down and I'm back to sleeping normally.

:hello: Hi to everyone else, hope you all have good (smoke free) days!

    Hi Everyone,
Hope your all ok and doing well.Im sorry I have not been on here for a while but Ive been a bit depressed and down lately so trying to aviod anything that makes me want a fag. Im still going strong and not smoking allthough a friend ofdfered one and i smoked it-friends shouldnt do that but he just offered it and i couldnt resist, if my friend had stopped and i was a smoker i could not smoke in front of them nor would i offer a fag as i feeel the 1st stages are critical and important. I no longer use the patches, havent done for a few weeks now and hardly use the inhaler although last few days used it a few times. I feel healthier already although I still get the craving.Im not sure if its all in my head or if its the nicotene.

Me being depressed doesnt help but im proud of myself that I have managed this well and Im hoping to stick to it. I have now put some weight on. When this happened to me last time I gave up my ex accused me of being pregnant,it was the weight id put on from smoking so if and when i se him next time he sure is going to make a comment-but
    does my face looked bothered-NO
Id rather put weight on than be a skinny skeleton that ive been looking like.

I wont be able to go disney as i dont think im gonna be able to afford it for march but I am still gonna take my son away to disney this year hopefully early summer as that way i will have more money saved.

Just want to say a big thank you to everyone on this post that has supported me and helped me in giving up as i dont think without this post I would of got through withuot you guys.

Well done to you all who have given up trying to give up and planning on giving up.Its all worth it and this is the best place to come

    Huugs xx
