Don't worry JoeHel, I have absolutely no intention of touching the lozenges now. Shame I didn't keep the receipt or I could have got my money back - not very moneysaving eh?
Your train story has just reminded me of another plus to giving up smoking.
No shouting at the baggage reclaim at airports to produce my bags so I can jog through customs to the outside world to have a fag :T0 -
Hello.
Im a regular on the old style boards and was kindly given this link by tattycath.
I today have been to my first stop smoking support group session and have set a quit date for this fri!
Im feeling very possitive, and i have tried many times in the past but have never asked for support.
I will be using the 24 hour patchs.
Rough history i am a 30 year old married housewife with 4 kids, who has been smoking for 10yrs approx 25 a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My motivation apart from the health issues is
1-For my husband and kids
2-Money, it will make me reach my dfd sooner!
I hope you dont mind me joining in, i am at home alone most days and may need to come and ask for support from you guys!!
Good luck and well done to everyone
Donna

Welcom dlb you're definately in the right place for mutual support and a bit of light entertainment. This thread made the difference for my quit success and I last smoked a cigarette on 24th June 2007 - if I can do it anyone can - honest - and lots on here have!! There are loads of recent and old quitters on here and its comforting knowing we're not alone but all in this together - omg I've been watching too much of dd High School Musical - eek!
Hi to everyone hope you're all doing well and enjoying a happy smokefree day.
IDA

A pay rise too... Thats a double celebration, Bas!!! Less going out and more coming in... YESS!! sending you a cake to celebrate!!:bdaycake:
Hi Racheal, welcome! as other's have said, you are through the worst and well on your way. I agree with your point about your environment... When I moved into my home (seven years ago) I wanted to become smoke free so never did it anywhere inside. There was a really tatty lean-to type place just outside the kitchen and all us smokers went there.... In fact, our addiction was so bad, we had some great parties out there whilst the comfy chairs and heated rooms inside were empty!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
The building has been extended and has now been all smoke free for a few years. The upside now is that I don't identify any of the rooms with smoking behaviour and that has been a great help.
I did laugh at JoeHel's story and yes, Boatie a plane journey is completely different all round as a non-smoker. I really appreciated that when I was off the weed last year!:rotfl: Older and growing0 -

Hi Donna!
Welcome! There are lots of us here, at different stages of quitting and there are more new people joining all the time so you won't be a newbie for long!
One bit of advice I'd give you now is write down all the things you HATE about smoking. Once you've started your quit, some of those reasons disappear rapidly and you soon forget the bad stuff. I can hardly remember my constant little cough or my rattling, wheezing chest, but I know I hated it! I can also never remember a £20 note lasting so long in my purse!! You don't realise how many other silly things you buy when you go for your daily ciggies... It's amazing how many things I now "do without" because I can't be bothered to make a special trip to the shop. I would NEVER have said that about ciggies. Everyone knows that not even a 4 mile walk at 2am to an all-night garage is out of the question when you run out of ciggies...QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -

Hi Donna :hello: and welcome. I recognise your username from OS
Go to post #1 and have a look through some of the links that jo has put in there and get yourself the silkquit meter (link is in jo's post, too)
There's usually someone around here to give you the support you need, but if you feel that you need a fag really bad, read one of JoeHel's posts - the feeling will have long passed by the time you've finished :rotfl:JoeHel wrote:I just came in to share a funny story. I was on the usual Stansted Express train in to work this morning when a tree came down onto the power lines and knocked out the power. Our 40 minute journey ended up taking 3 hours 10 minutes. After about an hour and a half I could have gone down that carriage and pointed out the smokers, no problem. As we were approaching Liverpool Street Station they already had their packs out into their nearest pocket, lighters at the ready... The train stopped and I saw one speed-walking down the platform. By the time I got through the ticket barrier he was already going up the stairs 2 at a time, LIGHTING UP AS HE WENT!!! He couldn't even wait the 20 yards to where it was actually "legal" to smoke - i.e. outside the station.... And I spent the whole journey sitting there, looking at the sheep grazing in the fields, listening to my music, totally chilled out and relaxed. I was sooooo happy not to be going through that panic any more!!!!
:T :T :T :T :T :T
I SOOOOOO remember being like that. Now I find it funnyshould have a bit more sympathy, really......

Hi IDA - :wave::dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Welcome to all you newbies - we are getting to be quite a big group now aren't we!
Just to be totally disgusting for a moment, have any of you quitters noticed how much nicer your tongue looks now - especially in the morning. No more yellowy/brown coating (yucky!!!) just nice and pink. Also have you noticed that you don't have to continually be swallowing trying to get rid of the muck that seems to be permanently lodged in your throat. See I am definitely looking more to the positve aspects than the negative ones, despite still missing it on some occasions! I had to get a new toothbrush just a couple of days into quitting, I was sure my old brush tasted of smoke, how revolting.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

HEH! Completely in touch with that. I had a tongue scraper that I used to have to use all the time. I can't remember the last time I needed it since I quit. I went to the hygenist and had my teeth done. Still some staining but I'm back on 4th Feb to finish off. £37 a time, but still less than I used to spend on smoking in a WEEK!!
I have reached my "2,000 ciggies not smoked" milestone today. Feeling VERY proud of myself :beer:QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -
Welcome Donna!! :hello:
Everyone can do it any way that suits them as long as they do it!!
Many on here have gone 'cold turkey' but I have failed so often, I was scared to try it that way again.... (I do envy them though). I did it with Nicontinell chewing gum in September 06 and that seemed to work for me. Having 'fallen off the wagon' again last year, I've turned to the chewy again and yet again it is working for me. I am setting a 'quit date' for the chewy very, very, very soon as I did end up addicted to the gum last time.....:rotfl:
I am at home most of the time too!:rotfl: Older and growing0 -
'Lo Mel
Sounding very postive today, m'dear!! Thanks for reminding me of those personal bits I'd forgotten I hated.... Agree totally!!!:rotfl: Older and growing0
