Okay i'm in, seems like is the place to be for support and encouragement. I have decided to go for full on cold turkey, and ditch the patches... this way i can get the stuff out quicker from my body:D
I realise its going to be harder, but he who dares wins. Had my last one about 40 mins ago.
:rotfl:
Hurrah !!! We've got another one !! Welcome muchly skintnow- you won't regret it !!
All you have too think is that you REALLY WANT TO GIVE UP and its easier.. Think of all the good reasons why....
It's great surprising people that would never think I could do it-think it's been said before, but it's the smokers who are the most put out by my carrying on- wonder what that means ??
So, what's your story with the fags ?MTC's NO MORE PIES MEMBER NO 202 !!!
now lost 1 stone 9 pounds- size 8 !!0 -

Evening everyone! Are we all okay today?! I'm seeing lots more positive and calm posts than yesterday and that HAS to be a good thing!
Just thought I'd pop in while dinner's cooking... Welcome to another newbie - Skintnow! You are in good company here. There are a few of us who have tried - and failed MISERABLY to quit on patches or other NRT products!! I hasten to add that I'm not saying they don't work for some people - obviously they do and hundreds of thousands of people have quit successfully with them BUT they didn't work for me. I felt like a right failure.
Discovering WhyQuit.com opened my eyes to why we smoke and why nicotine was something that I wanted to avoid at all costs!!! The more I read, the more I knew I just wanted to get that stuff out of my body and never ever smoke again.
A MASSIVE myth is how horrendous the withdrawal pangs are. THEY ARE NOT!! The thing is, we are so addicted to our little friend the ciggie we are just too terrified to find out for ourselves how bad withdrawal really is. We convince ourselves that it'll be like we've seen on the telly with people going cold turkey off heroin. The fact is, I've had minor colds and sniffles that felt worse SERIOUSLY!
Yes, you feel a bit jittery now and again and there's this little nagging "itch" now and again that your body wants something, but that's it.
If you can keep a positive mental attitude for 72 hours and revel in the feelings of your body healing itself (i.e. think of every strange new feeling as a step in the right direction and don't think that every little twitch means you will spontaneously combust in 5 minutes if you don't have a fag immediately  ) then you've done it.
I LOVED the cold turkey method because you literally feel that nicotine monster dying inside you!!
The invaluable first 72 hour guide I read was here...

Hello everyone and welcome to skintnow.
OMG I have done it - tomorrow my stock of baccy is going to a new home:eek:
Thought it was time to clear it all out, so have put it in a bag with filters and papers and it is going tomorrow.
I am glad that it was there over the past couple of weeks though, as I said earlier, I don't think it is a good idea to throw all of your cigs (or baccy) away too quickly. It is better for your own mind knowing it is there but being able to choose not to smoke it, rather than panicking because you suddenly realize there is nothing there at all.
So if I crumble now it will be expensive.
Hope you are all doing well, I am still plodding through my Allen Carr book waiting for some great revelation to happen.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

You have shown LOADS more strength than me Melbury I would have crumbled like a cookie if I'd had a pack of ciggies to hand during the first 3 days!!! I would definitely say they have done their job and you honestly don't need to put yourself through that every day to prove you can live without them.
I remember reading the Allen Carr book really slowly to try and take it all in and I also remember panicking when he talked about that moment of "revelation" 'cos I couldn't feel it happening to me. I'm not actually sure it ever did but I DO remember suddenly feeling very happy indeed about quitting. Maybe it's the first day you wake up and know that you are definitely happier without fags than you ever were with them... :jQUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -

Hello and welcome emsywoo123 :hello:
You have definitely come to the right place!! We're all at different stages and there are some of us cold turkey and some of us using patches. Guaranteed there is someone here who is either going through what you are or has come out the other side and can offer advice on how to get through it. Just promise us if you feel like a puff you'll come here first, ok?!QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0
