Thanks Basilcat. Yes I am pretty proud of my achievemnet so far. I have always been blessed with looking younger than i am so I hope that my previous smoking hasn't now made it so I look haggard before my time!!!:rotfl:I wish I had been blessed with trying smoking and deciding it wasn't for me. I could not do that could I, I had to be the one who tried it and didn't like it and then decided it would be a good plan to get used to it so I could be with the 'in crowd':o Now how stupid is that!!!! Well done to you anyway Basilcat, that's a great achievement.

  • Morning all,

Wow, this thread has been really busy over the weekend, I'm busy at work so I don't have time to read everything that's been written!

Just wanted to 'check-in' and say well done to all those who have reached milestones and keep strong to all those that are having a tough day!

My stats as of now are:

"Free and Healing for Five Days, 3 Hours and 38 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 4 Hours, by avoiding the use of 52 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £14.94."

I even went to dinner at a friend's on Friday night and had quite a lot to drink, was finding it quite difficult at one point (there were smokers there), but my best mate took me outside and made me shout/scream really loudly till it passed - good job there was a very heavy rain storm going on so her neighbours didn't think somone was being murdered.

It's a good tip - worked a treat for me anyway - maybe it makes your body release endophins?

    Morning everyone

I have tried repeatedly to quit using patches, but i must be doing something wrong as i keep going back to the weed. It seems to be after a number of weeks the 3rd and 4th week i just give in, and i don't know why?

I feel like trying going cold turkey and getting it over with quicker ( the withdrawal ) i know it will be unpleasant, but i have to keep trying..

I do get quite moody as well which doesnt help things at home, is there any thing i could try to lessen this?

All your stories are very inspirational and is motivating me to stop smoking for good.

Keep up the good work everyone:cool:

Hi Boatie_Bird- well done for not giving in on Friday !! Glad the shouting worked for you !!
Endorphins are released through exercise too- that played a large part last week for me- gym 5 times and 4 long walks. Felt better than ever after a 3 mile stomp late at night. Plus I can breathe clearly too!!

Hi Skintnow- I don't think I could give up with patches- only because they are still giving you nicotine!! Only because I've read the Allen Carr book too and he says you have to go cold turkey.
    Come on- join us !!

Lol I get moody too certain times of the month - evening primrose oil works ?

    Wheres TNG today?

Lunch- yum- jacket potato and tuna..

  • Hi Basilcat,

Good to see you're still going strong.
one of my co-workers is a real running fan and goes nearly every lunchtime.
I'm going to get some running shoes when I get paid at the end of the month and I'm going to go for a run with her a few times a week. Might help with some of the weight that I'm expecting to put on!!

Come on Skintnow - give it a go!
I've tried before with patches, gum, lozenges, inhalers and my efforts always failed after a few days.

With the cold turkey method you just have to remember that all the nicotine is gone from your body after 72 hours and the worst of the withdrawl is gone by day 3 or 4.

    hi skintnow :hello: and welcome

That is a very common thing. There is a complacency thing that kicks in at about 4 weeks where a lot of people start again thinking that "well I've cracked it, so I'll just have one......"

Allen Carr refers to this in his book(s). It is nothing you are doing wrong. You only need to be aware of it and deal with it when it happens.

As for the moods, JoeHel mentions some herbal tablets that supposedly help a couple of pages back - beware though, most of the last few pages are JoeHel [STRIKE]epics[/STRIKE] posts (we love her for it, though ;) )

Stick around for some [STRIKE]banter[/STRIKE] encouragement and have a look at some of the links in post #1 ;)
