wow this is wicked, i have to say we really are all doing well arent we!!!
from day 1 i put £5 a day into a clear empty coke bottle to motivate me, and about day 4 i felt a little flat so i took all the fivers out and crumpled them slightly then rearranged tem so the bottle looked full ha ha wishing for the day wen i would have to crumple them up little cos thered be so many,
anyway today, using the money i have saved i done my first driving lesson wahheeeeee, and nobody got hurt!! when i came home i felt really happy that id managed to see it through :-)
i second the WHYQUIT site too it hhas videos you can listen to in moments of weakness!
i am still using patches and nasal spray, they have their diff side effects
patches make me itchy and leave a red sqaure where they have been for 3 days after but what the hell small price to pay. the 24 hr patches screw up my sleep but what the hell to thhat too. i tried 16 hr ones but it takes a couple hhours for the effect to build up when you put them on again in the morning.
the spray is fantastic!! a real quit-saver but i am finding it a bit addictive which is unsettling me so am gonna try reduce it down this week0 -
:j good luck tightjock and well done on packing in :j
:hello: Hi FieryBlondeScot - I might ask about the nasal spray when I go to the smoking cessation clinic as I havent tried that one yet, the inhilator hurts my throat and the micro tabs make me gagthat just might help me through very bad cravings. Well done on your driving lesson - thats a great idea to save up for something
I have just about managed a day - got a bit moody earlier but DD knows what Im like by now when Im packing in smokingI also dont think I have stopped eating since I woke up this morning
really must occupy myself to take my mind off it.

Hi I quit 16 months ago (for the umpteenth time in my life) and I found a stop smoking clinic at Boots worked for me. I paid 1 weeks prescription charge for 8 weeks replacement therapy. The money I saved went into a savings account and is going towards my new kitchen so I can see something for quitting. Good luck to you all who are giving up, it can be done, I found I just had to want to give up.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

thanks for that tip tealady - will definately look into that
so far I am 1 day 7 hours and 33 minutes into quitting ( not that Im countingthats what my silkquit meter says )

Morning all!
How we doing today?
TJ, well done on deciding to give up, is today the day or have you set a date yet? £200 a month is a HUGE amount of money to put in a savings pot, just imagine you could have saved £1,400 by Christmas!! Let us know how you're getting on! :T
Redstar, thanks ever so much for the link, I'll have a look in a minute when I've caught up on here. Well done for giving up for 4 months, do you have any tips you can give us?
FBS, Wooohooo your first driving lesson :j now that is worth giving up for! When's your next lesson, will you have saved up enough for your next lesson by not smoking?
Oops, well done, you are doing really wellI haven't stopped eating either, think I'll be looking for advice on dieting in a few months, might have to start smoking again to drop the weight! :rotfl:
Tealady, well done, you're doing great!! Do you feel over the worst yet? Thanks so much for the Boots advice, I'll definately look into that. Any other tips?
Well yesterday was a struggle, I found it harder than the first day to be honest. I think that's cos my body only just realised that I'm actually giving up so was VERY moody :undecided
On Sunday I was in my neighbours having a coffee (she's also my childminder) and shes had a really bad cold although I was convinced it was a chest infection, she smokes so whenever she gets a cold it goes straight to her chest, I'm sure we all understand that! So Sunday she was bad, she couldn't breath at all and I was getting worried she was having an asthma attack or something. She got scared and was crying so I called an ambulance and got her kids round and they went off to hossie with her. Well she's still in there, they think she's got lung diseaseso if that's not a good reason for me to quit the fags then I don't know what is. So I've got no childminder for the foreseeable. My boss isn't too impressed as I can't go in today or Friday, husbands got Wed and Thurs off, so gonna be a stressful week!
Sorry for the long post!!
Hope you're all having a good 'smoke-free' day :A
Speak to you all later.

OMG Jo - its a good job you made her go to the hospital - I do hope she will be alright. Its quite a shock when something like that happens - so close to home too. Well done on keeping off them so far and well done with sorting out all of the extra problems that you have had to deal with, if you can get through this week you can get through anything.
All the best - OOPS:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
well done for today everyone it is amazng how quickly u unlearn the habit of having a fag with everything, every action every mood every event and so on.the first few days i had to keep sooo busy and ate non stop and now day 26 i only really get that 'somethings missing here - ohh yeh a fag- oh god i cant!!- awhhhhh but ive never NOT had a fag in thihs situation' type feeling, a few times a day, and at key times like on waking, eating, going to sleep etc, its not constant at all.
i have booked 2 driving lessons next week to give me double motivation!
i washed my bed linen at the weekend and last night i could just smell Comfort as i fell asleep, no smoky smell it was lovely.0 -
Well done!! When is your quit day? Yeah I can't imagine being able to stand outside having a quick fag when a few thousand miles up huh?!
You have a great reason to do it, so good luck
Well today's been full of ups and downs, I've had quite a few cravings but haven't given in. Unfortunately I've also eaten a shed load of chocolate so me thinks I'm gonna get fat
Only gotta get through another couple of hours and I know when I wake up tomorrow I'll be really pleased with myself. I have no fags here and would have to drive to the shop which I'm not prepared to do cos of the embarrasment of having to tell my husband that that is why I'm going out. So got no choice tonight.
Thanks Oopsadaisy for the link, I'll go take a look.
I wish you all well tomorrow, let me know how it's going!!
Jo.x
Hi jo
I checked on quitnet my stopping day is the 15th May
Well done quitters and good luck!Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0 -
Hi there fellow quitters - nearly two days for me
1 day, 22 hours, 23 minutes to be silkquit exact.
glad to see everybody else is managing. Still stuffing my facehad a few cravings but nothing bad enough to send me to the cashpoint to get cash to buy ciggies ( not carrying cash at the mo so that I have one more hurdle to go over if I do try to buy fags )
I have been looking into smoking cessation today. There is a joint PCT and Boots scheme here but it is the neighbouring PCT to my PCT so I cant get on that scheme  the Boots / PCT scheme means you go to Boots once a week to check your carbon monoxide levels then they give you patches or your preferred equivalent for a week but you only pay for 2 prescriptions as the PCT issues a 6 weekly prescription directly to Boots ( hope that makes sense )
So I am off to the smoking cessation group near to me tomorrow where I will get 2 weeks supply at a time and have to pay for every prescription - but that is still less than buying the cigarettes and Im not sure if I can get prescriptions free now I am claiming JSA
