  • Hello - I've only just discovered this thread so apologise if I repeat anything that has already been said as I have had a looked through but with over 2000 posts have been unable to read everything lol. Firstly well done to all who have succeeded in stopping smoking keep up the good work. I stopped smoking on 02/07/07 - 110 days ago - and thought you might like to hear a wee bit of my story. I had tried everything in the past Patches - am allergic, nicotine chewing gum - like chewing elastic bands, lozenges thingies - taste disgusting. All these "excuses" I found to keep smoking. i have also had Alan Carrs tapes and books and sent off for NHS Health Scotlands stop smoking info after seeing a tv advert but I decided I didnt want to watch/read anything that made me think about cigarettes. i now realise that although alot of it was excuses, I didn't really "want" to stop smoking enough at that point. Then I decided that I did want to stop and went cold turkey. It was difficult at first but not nearly as difficult as I had expected and I did suck my way through a load of lollypops in the first 2 weeks and then moved on to tesco value custard creams - only about 21p for quite a big pack. To combat the expected weight gain from such a high sugar intake I started to walk to work as often as I could - this is a 5 mile round trip -which seemed to work as I am still the same weight as i was before I stopped. I still do get the urge for a ciggie but not enough to make me reach for them. I would like to say to anybody trying to stop dont beat yourself up over a relapse. i attended a couple of functions in the first couple of months after stopping and after a few drinks (this was usually when i smoked more) I did have a couple of cigarettes, but I just had to forget about it the following day and vow not to have any more. Anyway dont want to bore you anymore.Good luck to everyone
