Don't be silly Tobruk, at least you've found your way back here :j

Everyone blips from time to time (however big the blip!), so long as you try again when you're ready you will eventually succeed :)

Have you decided you're ready to try again yet?

Hi Jo, thanks for that - I actually got a PM from TNG (only noticed it yesterday) which gave me some courage to come back.

Well I have been buying patches ready to get started again and hope to do it very soon! The thing is I can't set a date as every time I do this I smoke even more and it doesn't happen, so it will be sudden when I do it.

The other thing is that however much I read up on tips of how to do it, they all say that you should change your habits - distract yourself, go for a walk or something. I'm not in a position to do that as I am at home almost 24/7 and have a chronic condition, I am not trying to look for an excuse.

Then the best way for you to change your habits in doors would be to take up a hobby, preferably something you can do with your hands. Do you like painting or drawing, this sounds quite sad but I used to love painting little war figures that I bought from a model shop, really intricate work but quite relaxing.

Or maybe knitting, that's all the thing nowdays.

    Or writing.

Ummm that's all I can think of at the mo :rotfl:

  • Hi Tobruk
Welcome back, you haven't given up giving up - thats good! With your chronic condition try drinking a little water everytime you want a ciggarette or even chewing a pencil/pen top (thats what I did). I found the deep breathing really worked for me and to be honest I think its best to try and carry on as normal and learn to live without the weed. If I remember rightly last time you didn't tell anyone about your quit attempt - perhaps next time you should, support of your family/friends can make all the differance! We're all here for you always - your time will come.

I do enjoy drawing (pencil drawings) and have other interests but I suffer with ME and as today my body hurts so much I haven't been able to get dressed. Sorry it sounds really depressing but I'm quite used to it and I'm not one to feel sorry for myself. When I feel so exhausted and aching all over, it's easy to just sit there and have a coffee and a fag! The more I hurt I just have another cigarette!
  • Forgot to say many thanks Jo and TNG your kind words always help and I'm over it now - although still haven't finished the course work!!!
Welcome wurlitzerwilly your opinion is very much appreciated and I must say I agree, my dh still smoking and kissing can be a little euck straight after a ciggie.

    Hi IDA,
Thanks for your tips, I wasn't aware that I hadn't mentioned here last time that I had quit on 4th August! Typical me really I am so independant I tend to go and do it alone!
I am used to my condition, had to leave work over 7 years ago which was devastating (I absolutely loved it) and thought I would have been back within a year but it wasn't to be Hey ho!

I am gearing up to that quit date and will let you know when it happens! You are doing extremely well. The past couple of days I have been reading through this thread to see how everyone's doing.

    Good evening
I've just finished watching Allen Carr on DVD (coutesy of lovefilm) I recommend, although it's old ground for me after having read the book, it was a refresher.
I have been lurking on here, but also been blogging about not smoking:

Good to see you all going strong, you put me to shame.

Hi Jo, good evening to you too. Just had a look at your blogg - very good and I can relate to it, that is exactly how it is! I had my first attempt to stop in August and I failed after a month! Really ashamed of myself, angry, disappointed etc etc. I am trying to get to that point of giving up again but I'm scared ... yes scared, I suppose scared of the actual stopping and the prospect of failing again!

    Hi Tobruk
    Thanks for looking :)
Think we have to stop beating ourselves up lol ! If we're scared it means we'll be nervous and the first thing you want is a ciggie. (Aren't names for cigarettes so naff ? )
If I set a date I can't stick to it, like I'm being rebellious or something !
I have a whole day off tomorrow, mat watch the DVD again and stuff the housework !
