    Hi all,

Had a terrible day yesterday Monday, but managed to get through it...kept pressing the patch into my arm, thought it may release more nicotine ( stupid I know!!)
Don'tskipit - keep on at it - most people who want to quit smoking it normally takes 4 - 5 goes, but the main thing is you have made the 1st step into wanting to quit, which is the most important. Don't get me wrong, some people give up 1st time. This is my 5th attempt and feel quite strong this time. You just need to recogonise where you went wrong the last time.
ani*fan - well done, 1st step always the hardest - I'm on patches and find they work for me most of the time - keep us updated how your doing.
jo1972 - I can't wait to for the time when you just don't think about them as well- amazing how a little thing like smoking really takes a grip on your life............and bank balance!

Still worried I'm gonna fall at weekend - I need to be positive about this - I know I can do it.

    Good luck all.

PS..How do these bloody smilies work? Whenever I click on one it doesn't give the symbol, just a "T" or another letter....like this....:T :T :o

I am sitting here at my computer with butterflies in my stomach!!! [Do I feel stupid admitting that or what ? :o ]

Well, here goes, I am joining you NON-SMOKERS :A , starting this Friday.

There, I said it, no going back now it's been made public.

I tried to stop last year with patches and lasted about 3 weeks. But now I really need to get off the fags.

My husband was admitted into hospital last October with chest pains,100 miles away from home while working. Turned out to be several large blood clots on his lungs combined with acute lung infection. He had smoked for 40 odd years, about 40 a day in the past few years. He quit, just like, that the day he was admitted. I honestly never thought he would do it. But he did, he lit up one a few weeks ago [under a lot of stress] and couldn't understand how he had been able to smoke for so long.

Anyway I tried to not smoke around him and failed dismally. And now I have decided enough is enough!! For his sake, the kids sake and mine.

So that's it, gonna get some patches and some mints. Hope the patches stay on better this time, I must have oily skin, because they kept falling off last time. So another thing to add to the shopping list is really sticky tape. If anyone knows where I can buy determination and willpower I would be really greatful

Will call in again Friday evening and let you know how the first day went.

PS It took me about 5 minutes to hit that 'submit reply' button !!!!

    PPS Just had a quick work out. I smoke on average one and half packs a day. At £5.20. a pack, that's £7.80 a day, £54.60 a week, £ 2 8 3 9 . 2 0 a year. and I wonder why I've never got any money......:o
Proud to be dealing with my debts ONE day at a time
    Stopped smoking 25.05.07 - Saving £7.80 a day
:j Successfully claimed bank charges of £2598.39 as of 1st June 2007:j

Well done to all who are quitting the fags. I used Paul McKenna's stop smoking today, hypnosis CD and book. Brilliant, listened to it for the first time 2 Feb 2007 and haven't had a cigarette since. 17 weeks I think this coming Friday.

Hi Jo1972 :hello: hope your boss didnt catch you  how are you getting on ? well done on going out on Saturday night :T
Good luck for your quit date Ani*Fan - Im sure we will all still be here
Awwww Don'tSkipit - dont be too hard on yourself, you have done brilliantly - good luck for tomorrow. I have been packing in for years now - Im getting quite good at it :D
Well done LouBlue - Im not as brave as you, I need patches :o
How are you and your OH getting on Sea78?
WOW QueenswayBoy - well done you :T I think I have been packing in for seven years :o I will get there eventually
Im sure you will be fine at the weekend vindaveen - go armed with chewing gum, patches anything. I found that last time I packed in I drank quicker as I didnt have anything to do with my hands :rotfl: got a bit drunk quicker too
good luck for Sunday itsarichmansworld - you can do it
Good luck for Friday Dragon Lady - one time I packed in I wrote the amount saved onto post it stickers and stuck them everywhere :o If you are having problems with your patches staying on try to avoid a joint and dont put on an area that you have moisturised recently. If they still wont stick try to get hold of some tape from your pharmacist to stick the edges down a bit better. Dont worry - we are all in the same boat and we are all here for you.

I am trying to keep busy by doing housework and gardening as well as stuffing my face :o I ache all over but at least I didnt smoke or eat too much today. When I went to the smoking cessation clinic last night I mentioned about the over eating but they couldnt really help :( my SilkQuit thingy says I have now NOT smoked 318 cigarettes and saved nearly £79 :D 16 days today :T

Yeah its great the dosh you save i'm well into 20+k now:T go into it expecting the withdrawals before hand and know some will hurt a bit-get a plan of action ready for when they arrive so you know how to cope when/if they do,it really has got to be for yourself, your number 1 in this even to a point you got to be selfish with everyone else,i dont drink much now anyway but i did then and i did'nt set foot in a pub for about 8 month even with invites because i knew my weakest would be then.when i'd had a drink:o even if the worst happens while your doing it dont think about it as a failure, learn from it,and start again straight away,i bought 10 fags a couple of times before i cracked it,smoked 1 and through the rest away, then thought next time i wont do that i'll go for a walk,a long soak in the bath, anything till the
craving goes.It can be hard but keep telling yourself these are all just withdrawal symptoms and the longer you keep off nicotine they WILL eventually subside,i guarantee it.Good luck to you and everyone but it really is in your grasp to do this,i know so as i was a 40 a day smoker for 27 years .Remember, any setback is'nt a failure, just try and use it to learn and you will succeed.

Blimey, I've got some catching up to do on here!

Don'tskipit, don't worry we're all gonna get there eventually just take some of us a bit longer than others. Why not give the patch a go? I didn't like the idea of trying it but it has worked. Or ring up your local authority and ask about the smoking cessation clinics or pharmacy's that are running the quit smoking programme. Good luck hun, stay posting on here and keep us updated whatever happens ok.

LouBlue Wow you have done great!! One day a week less at work now that is a great incentive! Keep it up and give us all your tips! Stick around we could all use the positive vibes! :j

Sea78, don't worry about Friday night, start over again we will get there if we keep trying it's gotta work eventually huh?

Queenswayboy, I was just about to type my reply to you and ask for tips then I noticed you've posted again this morning with some! Thanks for the positive advice I wil think about what you've said when that craving hits. :T

Vindaveen, :rotfl: I press the patch down as well, try to make it work better!! Well done you are doing great! :j

Richman, don't worry about the hiccup, you are back on track for Sunday plus arming yourself with NRT and support from us here. What are you going for NRT-wise? Good luck, stay close to this thread and keep us all updated. :T

Dragonlady, well done you've made the first step!! You have an excellent reason to give up although that doesn't make it any easier does it? Just imagine what you can do with £2,839.20 this time next year, you'll be able to book a couple of weeks away somewhere nice and pay for it outright! :j

Jo Wales, Thanks for the Paul McKenna tip, I've heard that it is very good I might have to have a look on ebay (any excuse )

Oops, you are doing so well, and well done for keeping yourself busy and stuffing yourself silly!! Don't worry about putting on weight, you can deal with that in a few months when the quitting smoking has got easier. :D

Well I'm day 9 today :D feeling like crap if I'm honest but it's all in a good cause! I went out to a gig last night at the Roundhouse in Camden to see Biffy Clyro (anyone heard of them?) and the venue was non-smoking which was great!! :T I've run out of patches and was running late for work this morning so didn't have time to get to the chemist. I'll have to run out straight there at lunchtime before the cravings get too bad. :o

    Speak to you all later.

    Jo.
