The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Absolutely, we have 2 choices:
1) stay strong and achieve a quit
2) start by giving in, but run the risk of never quitting.
I'm young, 2 doesnt bother me, but thats because I enjoyed smoking, and now my parents know, my reason for quitting is invalid.
But, I do need to be better at sport, and we'll see when I start again next week if smoking makes any difference0 -
Afternoon Adzha and mum, you two are really motivating each other, your post made for a great read! Well done on maintaining your quit - it does get easier! Although 2 months on and I still get the urge - today has been particularly strange as I've been busy and have fancied one more than usual!! I just repeat my mantra "not complacent but confident" - I just know and will not forget that I'm only once cigarette away from being a smoker again! Seems to have worked for me!
Take care all.

You are so right! 1 to get rid of the urge would be so easy, but I know I'd start again0 -
Btw, how do after tobacco plug ins work? Is it after a cigarette, or constantly that they have to be plugged in?
And how effective are they?0 -
Hi all
I'm super-evangelical about quitting those horrible cigarettes. I quite 2 years ago on 3 September. I've never looked back (well not much).
I smoked from the age of 13 probably right up to age 39. I feel so silly that I kept the habit up for so long. Now that I've stopped though, and got a clue, I'm amazed that the whole world hasn't cottoned on. We're helped by the smoking ban, the extortionate price and the awful health risks so why are people still smoking?
I watched my darling father in law fight for every single breath as he slowly, very slowly, died of lung cancer. I couldn't not stop. My future was staring me in the face. He didn't want to die. He was in pain.
Why are your friends egging you on to smoke? "Go on, you know you'll never last".........."dont' be a spoilsport"...... It's because they're JEALOUS! You're doing what they should be doing. You succeeding means they fail. For my first six months I hung on for dear life. I tell you I was bereft without my beloved fags. I faked it when I could (with a straw), I ate like a pig (still do) but after a wee while I forgot I wanted one. Now I forget for days and days on end. It's cool!
Sorry for the long rant but I feel SO PASSIONATELY about it. Remember how people used to say "there's nothing worse than a converted smoker?" They are right! I am the reminder that it can be done.
Go visit www.whyquit.com
It's a fab site and you can get a nice quit counter that tells you how long, how much, etc. It's a great incentive to keep going.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
If I'm honest people egging me to start again dont smoke0

So, Adzha, what kind of friend is egging you on to harm yourself? Not a very good one in my opinion. Slightly off-base analogy BUT what kind of pal would tell me to stick my hand in a fire? A rubbish pal! Don't listen to them, listen to yourself. Don't sabotage your quit. Be strong.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0

Day 6 for me today:j
I found it really hard this afternoon as we went to the pub for lunch. I thought it would be okay because of the ban but it was so nice that we sat outside but so did every smoker in the county (it felt like there were that many!) But since I have quit I swear everybody smokes.
I just found it harder than I thought I would today.
I hope everybody is having a good dayPay off all your debt by Xmas 2012Aim £8200Total so far £3700Left £45000 -
