As I work full-time and do not have time to enter all competitions I limit my entries to prizes I generally want to win. As a single male with no kids I avoid entering competitions for prizes that I do not wish to win including family holidays, wedding prizes, kids prizes and competitions with prizes specifically for women (e.g. clothes and perfume) but I do enter competitions on women's sites for items I would like to win (e.g. on the dailies for wine, CDs, DVDs, M&S vouchers and books).0

Not generalising about the compers on this forum, but I suspect the vast majority are British.
Maybe our Britishness makes us have moral dilemmas when thinking about entering comps.
We Brits do have a jolly good time questioning why others have what we feel we should have, without bothering to go out of our way to get it.
So I say enough of the British reticence- go enter all the comps and stand at the door when the courier arrives with a surprise parcel an proclaim:-"I worked hard for that and earned it!!"

My point is, I don't think it's right to throw mud and judge people because you never know their circumstances. I know folks like Renegadia get a bad press and I know have even said things which I personally don't agree with and have sometimes annoyed me (which I actually think is often the point LOL) BUT they have also said a lot that I agree with on occasions, including that nobody has any right to tell any winner what they should or should not enter for, or what to do with their prizes. We all put the time in after all.
Sadly I have, used to let it affect me somewhat but now I've got... used to it it doesn't bother me at all now
Generally it is (honest!), I'm never out to genuinely upset, I know I come across as somewhat outspoken and opinionated but heck, that's me anyway! I'm also just a tiny weeny bit of a windup merchant or as others have said, 'troll-like' (which I love, btw!)
This is the single most important thing. We all have our own rhymes and reasons for comping and ultimately, even though the paths are different, we're all here for the same thing, entering comps in the hope of winning.
Most importantly it's to have FUN doing it. I see people on here and I'm not going to mention names but I see them and they appear to be comping as a grind or a chore and the fun seems to have been taken out of it, which really isn't the way to go. If you're not having fun comping, then you really shouldnt be comping, is my feeling on it.
You've earned yourself a rare Ren thanks - wear it with prideNow someone else say something before the thread turns into a massive love-in!
Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

It does, however annoy me if people say 'nice to see the prize going to a good home and not on ebay' but then sell prizes themselves!
Personally I'd never enter for anything any of my immediate friends/family or that I can donate to the place I volunteer. But, if someone wants to sell thats up to them... It's no ones place to say but their own choicex

I have a major dislike for the daily mail so no matter how much I may want the prizes I will not enter them0

Similarly, as a Liverpool FC supporter, I would never entertain even clicking on a link from the Sun, never mind entering one of their competitions, doesn't matter how good their prize may be. They will never darken the doors of my computer!!
Other than that, I don't enter anything that involves lying in a survey (eg. ones aimed at specific jobs, age groups, etc etc) or registering for a site that I have no independent interest in.
I don't enter comps for pet stuff, baby stuff, or anything that would be much more useful to someone else rather than me. I would feel awful say winning tickets to a pop star I don't like, when a real fan could be making use of those tickets.0 -
I never enter the comps on the diabetes website. I feel like it should be for people who have it. I also rarely enter wedding comps as they ask for your wedding date and won't lie and put one in.
I also never enter the horse or fishing ones, not because of morals but because I don't want the prizes and don't know of anyone else who would either. I wouldn't enter a meet and greet if I ( or someone I know) wouldn't want to meet them.
I would, however, sell a prize on ebay if no one I knew would want it. To me that's a win win situation. I get some cash, and the person who buys it saves some money too.0 -
One of my comping new year's resolutions was to only enter things that I want and could find a use for. It's easy to sell unwanted wins but I just can't be bothered with that and don't find it fair really.0
