Moral Dilemmas

I don't enter anything from religious sites any more _ I entered one from a christian site once & am still indundated with christian dating spam (neither a practicing christian or single) & although my hubbies great grandmother was Jewish I feel awkward about entering from the Jewish chronicle as the links bit tenuous.proud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I only tend to enter competitions that are useful to me or my family/friends. I would never enter a baby/child contest unless i had children (or knew someone who would appreciate the prize) and i don't enter any competitions on sites aimed at people much older than myself. Occassionally i'll enter for something where i really want the runner up prize, but am not fussed at the main prize (but still wouldn't mind winning), but i would never intentionally enter a competition where i knew that the prize would be absolutely no use/interest to me and therefore would be denying someone who really did want it. I certainly wouldn't enter for a vip experiance for tickets to a gig and to meet a band that i didn't like for example.[COLOR="Px (urple"]Good luck for 2025 Comping! Be lucky! I never enter to win tickets as I am tied with the kids - I think people who really want to attend the venue/like the band should enter those - trying to sell tickets on ebay are not a good idea - heard a few stories of tickets being cancelled by the promoter if they have seen their prize go on sale!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

I feel bad entering magazine comps where you have to say what page something was on, but I didn't buy the magazine.
And I agree with the poster above who feels bad when they actually want the runners-up prize but not the main prize (that happens to me a lot).
I only enter comps for things that are useful to me or my family, so generally don't have the dilemma that someone who really wants it will miss out.
Because I have young children I am really picky about comps for tickets and holidays, so I'd like to hope that other people are picky about not entering baby comps so that I stand more chance0 -
After reading through the above posts, I do still believe that whatever a person's reason for entering a comp is, is no one elses business. Some compers give prizes away, some sell on because they need the money, etc. Not everyone agrees with entering to win the unwanted but everyone's circumstances are different so judgements cannot be made.
For example, that skint person who sells on an unwanted prize in order to buy good food to feed their children may be critisized by many compers, but aren't they just trying to provide for their children and improve their home life? I have friends on Facebook who I see entering to win baby comps or toys when I know fine well they do not have children. I also see friends entering to win tiny dresses aimed at teens when they are older and have plus size figures! - BUT I keep my opinions to myself and if they win I still congratulate them!! Everyone to their own - that is my motto and 'if you cannot say anything nice - it is best to say nothing at all!!':TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
Did anyone else enter the comp to win the signed Game of Thrones script? This is typical of a prize that you have no idea of the monetary worth - but if I won that it would literally make my comping year as I am a HUGE fan. I really hope it goes to a fan and doesn't end up on Ebay. There's a skewed kind of logic in there but it works for me.
*Waves* - that'd be me - only because my OH and father-in-law are massive fans and I know it would be greatly appreciated by either of them
I cover quite a few different "categories" - I have children of ages 12, 9 and 4 - a baby on the way - a footy / rugby / cricket (well any sport really) mad brother - a fishing & motorbike mad other brother - my uncle loves anything to do with photography - I have 9 nieces & nephews (all under 8) - so I enter pretty much anything that I would like or I could pass on to any of them.
I don't enter breaks / holidays for 2 people unless they are overnight only and travel is covered or it's for somewhere I want to go. I do enter family holidays (normally for 2 adults, 2 kids) in the hope they'll accept my eldest as an adult - as she's 12 - and the OH could stay home to look after the doggy :rotfl: - I don't even look at the dates for those, would rather pay any fine for taking the kids out of school for a week and let them enjoy a free holiday that I couldn't afford otherwise than bypass it
I don't enter for horse stuff - did by accident one day then panicked about what I would do with it!! Haha.
It does annoy me when people enter to sell - there are some prizes which money can't buy which I would prefer to go to those who would appreciate it (like the GOT script above). I know, no rules and who am I to tell them? :rotfl:
Anyway, best of luck to you allThanks to all posters :A0 -
Very similar to most answers here - I enter for things I want or things that would make good presents for family members.
Never enter for holidays I couldn't go on or for tickets that I cannot use.0 -
Again, similar to the previous answers - most of the time I find myself clicking the red cross.
I can't travel much, I don't like films, I have no idea about celebrities, I don't own a horse but I do the cat/dog comps as I'd give any prize to a rescue centre. I don't have kids, but there will be a baby in the family from April so I've started doing some of those, I don't do the comps where you have to register and log in to an account.
I mainly do beauty/gadgets/homewear/foody type comps.
It also annoys somewhat when people comp to sell - or worse, they say they really want an iPad (for example) and they've said this for ages and when they do win one you find it they're selling it on ebay.
Still, I know this is a sore point so I'll shurrup0 -

Why is it a sore point?
Surely people enter competitions for their own reasons - and enter in their own way. I'm never sure why there has to be so many issues when it comes to the world of comping??
I don't take part in many discussions on here but I am surprised over how many spats there are.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.0 -
I mostly comp for things I'd like or my friends/family would appreciate; I don't comp for cash. I don't normally enter for things where there's an in-person part of the prize like tickets unless I know I'd be able to attend, although with some events like Taste of London I'll enter as many comps as I can find to win tickets as I really enjoy going, so I sometimes end up with multiple tickets. It's quite nice to be able to invite friends, but I don't know if some compers would think that's greedy.
I don't enter for family holidays or kids toys, but I have started entering for the odd baby-related prize, because I could store them at my mum's house. That's less of a pressing need, but if you know you'll be planning a family at some stage, it makes sense to me to try and win a few bits of gear ahead of time. I don't have a problem with entering comps from magazines where I'm not the target audience (I'm not gay or Jewish, for e.g.) because I don't think it really matters that much - it's no different to entering a comp on a magazine's site if you don't normally read their mag!2015 comp wins - £370.25
Recent wins: gym class, baby stuff
Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0
