Why is it a sore point?
Surely people enter competitions for their own reasons - and enter in their own way. I'm never sure why there has to be so many issues when it comes to the world of comping??
I don't take part in many discussions on here but I am surprised over how many spats there are.
Completely agree! I think everyone is entitled to enter what they want to enter and do whatever they want with the prizes. I never say anything - just keep my opinions to myself:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -

I won't answer that as I'll only start a spat0 -

See, this gets me because in essence everyone who enters any "no purchase necessary" competition is hoping to gain something for free- or profit, so it doesn't matter what the comp is for or who is offering the prize, we all want to profit.I am a Random Number!(£174)

I generally comp for things that we want/need but sometimes I do enter comps that I think I might be able to sell especially recently since I've been on maternity leave and my tenants did a moonlight flit before their tenancy was up, leaving me two mortgages to pay. Plus before anyone starts I never asked to be a landlord negative equity is the reason why I was a landlord now selling the place but not having any luck with it. Getting back on topic, my xbox win got my friend a cheaper than retail price Christmas present and I got to money to pay half a mortgage.
Like people have been saying, it's people's own choices what they do with their prizes.March Wins

Well no because (to me at least) I think there is a world of difference between entering to win a treat for yourself or those close to you .......and entering to flog it on Ebay. For me (and I've comped for years ....actually looking for comps rather than pasting everything off a website is more rewarding anyway and I miss those days and the community spirit which was better than now simply because it was a smaller group) it's about the intention and the spirit of comping .
I must admit I do chuckle when a "enter for everything regardless of if I have a use or a home for it" brigade win something completely naff and useless and whinge about it....Comping Karma indeedI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I think we all have different reasons for comping and none of us have any right to judge what others do with their prizes. If they win something of high value and then sell it, it's just like turning it into a cash prize, in a way. We all invest quite a lot of time (some more than others) into this hobby and all have our own way of doing things.
I don't have any problem with the "enter for everything regardless of if I have a use or a home for it" brigade (I find that a bit insulting actually) as I'm sure no prize actually gets wasted. I enter a lot of competitions for tickets and if it's not something that I would personally enjoy, it's always family or friends that go and have a fun time, instead. Sometimes I have won something which I have no use for personally and no-one to give it to, so have given it to a local charity as a raffle prize. I once won a laptop and sold it and used the money as I had a very urgent bill which I had no other way of paying.
My point is, I don't think it's right to throw mud and judge people because you never know their circumstances. I know folks like Renegadia get a bad press and I know have even said things which I personally don't agree with and have sometimes annoyed me (which I actually think is often the point LOL) BUT they have also said a lot that I agree with on occasions, including that nobody has any right to tell any winner what they should or should not enter for, or what to do with their prizes. We all put the time in after all.
I appreciate some members in certain groups ie members with children resent it a lot when members with no children enter for obviously children's prizes (toys, games etc) as they perceive that this is reducing their chance of winning - and that they would actually use the prize rather than selling it on or giving it away, that it seems unfair. However, that is reality and somehow, whether being given as a gift or sold on, the prize will still end up with a child, somewhere.
That's just my thought, each to their own and let's all get on and help each other when we can, enjoy the community here, be grateful for the OPs and for our wins and let's not fight and judge. xx
I'll get off my soapbox now LOLMAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR0 -

Amen to that!
Look, if the companies that provide items for competitions want the prize to go to someone deserving of the item they are giving away, then they can quite easily filter out the immoral profiteers like my self.
But most often they don't do that, because the name of the game is cheep viral advertising for them. and how morale is that?0 -

Agreed! I keep prizes and sell some too. I also never say anything negative to people regardless of wins/prizes or what they choose to do with them. The people who usually have a go at winners are usually the jealous ones. I cannot understand why some people aren't able to just keep calm and carry on - after all - who cares what others do with prizes! Far more important things to worry about in life!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0
