Moral Dilemmas

I don't enter to win holidays (as I am tied with the kids school), dvds unless I really want to see the movie (and I am very choosy so not many), books (I never read books anymore - just flick through magazines), movie memorabilia (unless it is a movie the kids like). I don't enter any of the wedding mag ones either as usually they ask for the date of your wedding and I wouldn't want to lie in case I won and they asked for proof!
I enter to win baby stuff as my sister and brother have just had new additions to their family. I enter to win pets stuff as I have a few pets and I only enter to win clothes, shoes and jewellery that I would wear (again I am very choosy!). Vouchers, cash, household and electrical items are all on my favourites to win list!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
If it is a prize I can give to someone else I know, I will enter. My boyfriends 2 sisters are pregnant so I have been entering to give to them!2018 wins: Scottish weekend break, london weekend break and hotel chocolat hamper0

If it can be used or given to anyone I usually buy for then I will enter.
Recently won a Wedding Magazine comp, am not getting married (and no intention after 1st time!)
However OH is now getting a lovely handmade suit for my sister's wedding in June.
I don't enter just for me and my 2 children, I enter for everyone I know that could make use of a prize I couldn't afford xxI love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I don't do the baby or wedding ones either. I don't think it's fair to enter those sort of competitions when you don't need to.
I just think that by entering baby/wedding comps where you don't actually need the prize, you are denying someone else who does need it the chance of winning it. And it's a bit selfish.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.
comping = nowt more thrillin' than winnin':T :j0 -
Except a lot of prizes are things that no-one actually "needs." Wants, yes, needs, no.
An HDTV to replace your existing perfectly adequate one, the spa day/holiday that's extremely nice to have but not exactly one of life's essentials.
I have no qualms at all about having a go.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I have list of stuff I won't enter for in the hopes that someone who would really appreciate the prize will win it - although I know this is unlikely and its far more likely to go to a 'pro' comper like myself. By that I mean I'm visiting the site to enter the comp, not to read the site. And in no way am I trying to set the whole 'pro comper' debate off
So no babies, no weddings (plus honeymoons), no fishing, no horses, no tickets for premiers that come with other things I might like, no kids toys, no places on cookery schools I wouldn't be able to get to even if I want the wok/le creuset that comes with it - the list goes on and on.
Don't get me wrong, I have Ebay'd prizes before now - stuff like mobile phones doesn't bother me. Anyone could win and really appreciate a mobile phone. But there are some prizes I think 'belong' to someone other than me.
Did anyone else enter the comp to win the signed Game of Thrones script? This is typical of a prize that you have no idea of the monetary worth - but if I won that it would literally make my comping year as I am a HUGE fan. I really hope it goes to a fan and doesn't end up on Ebay. There's a skewed kind of logic in there but it works for me.
Each to their own - we all have an amount of time and effort we are willing to put into comping and we all have different views on this. Enter what you want, keep/giveaway/sell what you want. It's not really anyone else's business. I've seen this debate get quite heated before and would never judge what anyone else does with what they win.
having a set of 'rules' also helps to make comping more manageable for me otherwise I'd never sleepComps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

That's fair enough. While I do have a go at the telly/gadget comps, I have a DH and a DB who like gadgets, so if I won they make ideal pressies. Saves a few quid at Christmas
I just steer clear of the baby/wedding ones because it's a waste of time for me as I am already married and I don't have kids, so for me someone else can benefit from that prize, IYSWIM. I'd rather leave those ones alone and hope I am lucky on another comp that appeals.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Thanks for all the posts, enjoyed reading them.
I think it is easy to set rules when comping, but you know you would break them if the draw was for a £20k diamond ring to do a survey on whats its like to work in a sewage plant- you'd kinda be tempted to blag the answers cause the prize was worth it.
Also when other compers put up codes from products, where it is needed to enter- that's another dilemma.
I just really wanted to see what other moral dilemmas were out there.I am a Random Number!(£174)
2016:£14(venus),£50(WhiteHouse),£100(NisaNoFear),£10(SportsDirect)0 -
I usually only enter competitions for things I will actually use/love to win, but sometimes I will see something that I could see a friend/family member using! So I will enter and if I am lucky enough to win, give it to them.2013 WINS - Nothing yet, fingers crossed for me and everybody else! :j0
