I do not understand how a high postage and packing would stop you from bidding when you are happy with the overall price paid.

I always take the postage and packing into account and bid accordingly.

Worse than any postage items is the utter fear of receiving a postcard saying the postman called/you were out - and now you have to get to the PO while it's open to collect it - and take ID. That, or the package being too large for the ridiculously, stupid, tiny 'postbox' attached to the wall where the postman has to leave the package.

I wouldn't mind paying the postage if I knew the item would arrive in a timely manner and be in my postbox....

    Take ID?

P&P is an emotive issue :rotfl: But as per my original post if the charge is high I personally feel like the seller is trying to rip me off before I bid, so I may miss a bargain, that's my choice, but royal mail charge enough without the seller adding on a hefty profit.

I have noticed on this thread how a lot of posters are put off by common factors which makes me wonder why sellers keep doing it?

I think some sellers get into a frame of mind that blames low sales and other issues on everybody else but them.

I used to do a lot of 'casual' advising about eBay and saw a lot of accounts and people having problems. You would be surprised how many people started by ranting at stupid buyers and other sellers who are obviously buying their own goods as otherwise why is their stuff selling and of mine - sort of attitude.

A very simple skim of their auctions showed all sorts of issues, that they were completely blind to.

Maybe ask them why they were selling a whole range of brand new decorated baby bibs at 99p but with £4.99 p and p and they were surprised I even asked as they believed it was obvious. They were registered as private sellers and eBay forced them to list as 99p and they were paying £1.50 each for the bids so where else were they supposed to put the p and p.

Also things like The 'not responsible for items lost in the post' issue was so common I got bored of mentioning it to people.

Most of these sellers did sell a little, enough to give them hope that buyers really were daft enough to buy. However they could see that other sellers were out selling them tenfold , and just couldn't understand why.

Apart from bad feedback - nothing stops me bidding.

I have buyer protection - so i just go for the cheapest.

If theres a TRS within a few pence of the price though - i will go for them.

The ONLY thing that puts me off is when they give a very vague description and the photo isn't very good either, in which case you're not quite sure what you might receive.

The oddest phrase I found was

"I only sell items that I would be happy to receive myself".

Well given you don't know the person, what's to say they have no objection to receiving filthy tat?!?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

its not even so much the price of delivery, some sellers actually state that they WILL NOT deliver to highlands and islands even for simple items such as DVD's! i had one company that refused to use Royal Mail and charged me a fortune for delivery of a cot matress, which i happily paid for......then it arrived via RM at a fraction of the cost! Another company sent me a rotary iron, huge and really heavy, took 2 men to unload it, and it was free delivery......all the way from Germany! At the end of the day it is up to the buyer to decide if they are willing to pay delivery costs, but not having the choice can be such a pain. Apart from that I LOVE EBAY :)
  • I have to say not a lot puts me off bidding.
High postage sometimes annoys me, but if I can't find a similar item for a similar total price, then I'll suck it up.

Obviously if something looks too good to be true (eg low price for an expensive item) I'll steer clear.

The only time remeber conciously not bidding on something was when they said in the listing that the item comes from a home where people smoke.
