    Expensive items from relative newbies.

That said, i've just been conned from someone with 100% selling a dodgy item, so i'm put off of bidding on anything from now on.
  • Bad photographs are one of my major turn offs. I am much mire likely to bid/buy from someone who has taken their own good photo of the actual item. Hate people using ebays photos or generic internet ones. Let me see the actual item your selling!

    High postage
High bids (when it can be found cheaper elsewhere - people get too carried away on eBay)
    Bad T&C's
    Too many rules
    Too many neg/neutral feedback's
Selling multiples of the same (if they are not a business)
    Slow post feedback
People that only post once a week
    Poorly written sales
    Bad photographs
    Not enough info

Yes all of these stop me, I'm sometimes amazed at the sale price, I blame auction fever.

None of the above. Only sellers with really bad feedback ie lots of negs or esp with lots of poor attitude replies to negs or neutrals.

I'm amazed that people are put off by auctions that are "private" - do you really believe that they are all shill bidders? I set my auctions on my personal account to private, because I don't want my relatives seeing me flogging off their gifts ;) Won't do that again!

I always avoid private as it is easy to disguise shill bidding, it doesn't mean everyone is though.

I won't bid on an un-ironed item, goes back to can't be bothered or that the person doesn't take care of their clothes. I won't bid on a stock photo either as I want to see what I am buying.

    1. Non businesses selling multiples of same item
    2. UK based businesses selling multiples of Region 1 DVDs that are available in Region 2 - almost always counterfeit
    3. Negs for counterfeits, negs with sarcastic or rude replies, feedback about poor packing for fragile items
    4. Lengthy T & Cs that try to evade any responsibility for loss in the post.
    5. Txt speak in listings
    6. Poor spelling or grammar in listings
    7. Low stars in any category

I mainly buy stamps, studio pottery, DVDs and CDs plus assorted other odds and sods. Only a few problems in 14 years of eBaying - good sellers outnumber the bad in my experience.

Yes, if a seller feels the need to disguise their sold items and the IDs of their bidders, so that other bidders can't see who they're bidding against, or what else they've bid on or bought, the chances are that the reason isn't in a genuine bidder or buyer's interests.

I often see private auctions being gently 'nudged up', with amounts like £29.99, £34.99, £39.99, £44.99 etc - then stop just short of the lead bidder. If another real bidder enters the auction, the nudging process continues upwards. ;)

A couple of negative feedbacks doesn't put me off, but if the response to them is aggressive or sarcastic, that is a definate turn off.

I don't bid on things with a wall of writing for terms and conditions.

Not keen on things posted by mobile phone.

    I'd agree with those three.

Some listings posted by mobile phone barely have six words in the description- i'm not looking for an essay but a few details would be good.

In the collectible/vintage/antique categories there is a growing trend for the listing to say either 'see title' or 'see photo' . All very well but I can't see buyers being happy with nothing but a title stating something like 'rare whitefriars vase in blue' with the condition listed as 'used' and nothing else Not even a general indication of size or wear.

This is actually quite a good one as it has some text, it is a small vase, no idea how small though

Edit: had to add this one as well, I think 2 different traders are using that account as one can spell and the other can't

Buying electrical goods from China/Hong Kong - they're almost always fake, and usually the shipping time is a lot longer than stated!

Also really short descriptions sometimes put me off.

Sorry for me private=shill. I tried to get around this with a snipe bid, but I have so many problems with my last buy I won't touch a private listing. There is no reason to have them.

Other things that put me off? No feedback, no photos, deliberately evasive listings. Classic car listings are good example. Listings that go on about mechanicals, but ignore bodywork. Obviously a rotten car, or use get out terms like good for age.

Aggressive listings. If I see lots of capitals, or huge list of terms and conditions. No chance of a bid. I would never touch cash on collection unless I could be 100% sure I could test it fully before taking.
