If I read your comments correctly it was not the flight to Istanbul but your onward flight from Istanbul that was cancelled? If that is correct then I am far from sure EU261 applies, even more so when you chose to cancel the flight altogether. Pegasus being a non EU airline, appears to take a very strong view that it is not liable under any circumstances so I would expect them to completely deny the claim in your case

This is our experience with Monarch and compensation: Just to let you know if you ring them directly and ask for the EU claims department or non EU claims department I presume for non EU flights you should get it sorted quicker.

I posted them a letter in June 2014 after getting back from holiday about our June flight in 2012 (we had been turned down for compensation back in June 2012. I had decided to try again) as I had read we could claim.

I received nothing. On ringing them I was told that it would have gone to customer services as I hadn't directed it to EU claims. I also hadn't sent it in with the claims forms.

They are very helpful in the EU claims department. They hadn't received my letter as they said it wouldn't have gone to them.

The lady gave me her details to send it directly to her. She also emailed me the claims form. I sent the claims forms back in last Wednesday along with a covering letter, recorded delivery.

I rang them this morning. I spoke to another nice lady who said the letter had been separated from the forms. I sent her a copy of the letter via email whilst I was on the phone. She dealt with it there and then.

I got a response about an hour later. We have been awarded compensation x 2 for the delayed flights of £316 approx plus £75 in Monarch vouchers to be used by next year.

As we fly regularly with Monarch because 1 of our holidays per year is with them as we go to the same place once a year, that may have been why it was dealt with so quickly, I don't know.

However I just wanted to tell you our story and let you know we have had a positive outcome.

The cheques for the compensation will be received in the next 21 days.

I thought this maybe of help to those struggling with Monarch, on additional information to help your claim
  • I have started the process by sending the letter to Emirates for the compensation. I gave them the line about reply within 14 days but it has been well over that and I have not heard anything. What is my next step?

    Appreciate your views

If you said you would start court action if they do not respond in 14 days and they have not then you should be looking to start court action

this is the thread that will relate to Emirates so you can see what others have done https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445423

I don't think it was particularly well advised to send (what was presumably) a NBA without understanding the next steps. I strongly advise you to follow Caz3121's advice and get familiar with the legal process - "end to end". You can then decide if it's something you want to do yourself or alternatively appoint a no win no fee firm.
  • hi all
I have read quite a few messages and done some searches on this forum but would appreciate a few words of wisdom from the group on my circumstances.
I booked 4 flights for my family London-vancouver via Chicago on United Airlines. At the last minute they changed the schedule of the london-chicago flight but there still looked like there was enough time to change planes.

As it turned out, the schedule was wrong; it estimated a landing time of 9.15am but actually landed 1.5hrs late. I saw this while I was on the plane (the estimated landing time) and asked a cabin attendant why we were 'late' and she said 'someone messed up the timetable it always takes 8.5hrs to fly this route not 7 hours'.

So we now only had 1.5 hrs to change planes in Chicago. But….the US requirement is that all transiting travellers in Chicago have to go through US immigration, even if their final destination is NOT the US. What a pain in the !!!. So as you can guess the queue was massive. We tried to get through as quick as poss, but then our luggage had not yet come through, so that meant we had to wait for it. By the time it had come through and we had picked it up and headed over to the other terminal for our flight…we had missed the gate close by 5 mins. The plane was still at the gate and we were 5 mins before scheduled departure time and had boarding passes but were denied boarding. And they had unloaded our baggage anyway, since they reckoned we weren't going to make it.

We were offered a rerouting via Houston to Vancouver which we just had to take and offered $7 each in food vouchers..yay!

So when we arrived at our final destination in Vancouver we were a total of 7.5 hours late.

What is our chance of getting the full 600 euros compensation per flight?

And how do I go about getting it, since there is no UK address for United Airlines?

    thanks in advance!

    Best on this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445417
Have a look at the posts from Lyndac40 who had a successful battle with United for similar situation...post #245 has the address in the UK

You will likely have to send the NBA before getting a response and may have to go to court as Lynda did...process for this is covered in the FAQs
  • Hi I wonder if anyone can help. We were delayed in 2010 coming back from Delhi on Emirates airlines. Due to the delays, we missed every connecting flight and was over 3 hours delayed once we reached London for our connecting regional flight. I know the rules do not apply to Emirates, but when we got our luggage back the following day, a number of items were missing. We contacted Emirates as we had a feeling it probably happened in Delhi, but they said they were not responsible as BMI was our final carrier and BMI rightly compensated us for the missing items. So would they be responsible for the flights delays?

Please post on the relevant existing thread.

Your delay was on an Emirates flight so I'm not sure how that's BMI's fault.

Delay compensation and baggage are 2 different cases.
Airlines have an agreement that with missing baggage that the last airline files the report and takes responsibility...this is to avoid them passing you off between different airlines, you always know that you claim from the last carrier and they can sort it out between themselves.
Sounds like you missed your bmi flight because of the Emirates delay. So bmi did not cause your delay, you failed to turn up in time to board the flight so it left without you on board (due to the earlier delays)
    no claim
