Flight delay compensation, all other non-EU airlines

I was on a flight between London and Kuala Lumpur (via Doha) which was severely delayed.
At the time, no explanation of the delay was given so I wrote to them asking for a refund and to reimburse my additional expenses which I qualify for if the airline are at fault.
In the response they said they are not at fault (details below) but have offered the equivalent of £50 as a gesture of goodwill.
Do I accept this and move on, or are they hoping I accept this instead of a flight refund. How do people know the reason of a flight delay, without just taking the airlines word for it?"Although every effort is made to achieve on time departures, there are occasions when flights are delayed / cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control as it unfortunately happened with QR004. Our records indicate that the above mentioned flight was disrupted due to a technical defect which became apparent prior to the scheduled time of departure Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to avoid the delay and as such, we believe that this would be considered an extraordinary circumstance, which in this case, involved unexpected flight safety shortcomings. As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to reimburse the additional expenses you incurred as a result of the disruption of MYR288/-. Kindly provide us with your contact number, address, and bank details so we can arrange our local office nearest to your area to settle this claim."

Technical defect which does not = extraordinary circumstance and does not = safety shortcoming therefore up to you to pursue your valid claim if you wish.0 -

You need to read the FAQs to understand the issues and your options.
It could well be worth your while financially.
Please post any questions not answered in the FAQs on the thread: Flight delay compensation, all other non-EU airlines0 -
Please don't double post. I answered this on your other thread. As I said there, enforcing a judgement against AeroMexico may be very difficult, unless they have a presence in the UK.
EDIT: Their UK "office" is in Lavender Hill, south London. But it looks like it's just a post office box number ...
Many thanks for your reply and apologies for double posting.
I received an email today from AeroMexico (the first one after the one acknowledging my letter about 2 weeks ago) saying they will pay compensation for the 3 of us (including an infant!), totalling €1800!! :T:T
I still can't believe it, and keep wondering where is the trick?!0 -

Wow - what a great result Nat! I didn't see that coming!
What a contrast though with our own UK airlines ...0 -
Hello MSE world. I dont know if you remember me, but i had a flight which took off then got turned around due to engine failure and I asked for advice on here. Well I wrote a letter to United Airlines and they responded with a letter of apology for my delay and that they agreed that it did infact fall within the criteria of the law and without and dispute our party of 5 have recieved a pre paid debit car loaded with 600euros. Thats a grand total of 3000euros between us. So my advice to anyone who is unsure whether or not they are entitled, please write a letter to the airline, you never know your luck. We didnt think our case fell within the criteria but until you ask you dont know for sure. For the price of a 1st class stamp we are now (as a group) 3000euros better off. Thank you to the MSE world for their advice directed in my direction.0

Delayed 10 hrs with Tunis air, flying from Nantes (France). Have sent two recorded letters to them with all relevant information plus a letter to the passenger rights, director general of aviation in Paris. Have had no replies whatsoever. Just wondering what our next action should be.0

Hello,
Just wondering if someone can help me with a plane delay with Qatar Airways.
Had a flight from London-Doha-Cambodia. The London plane was delayed and landed late so that we missed the connecting Cambodia flight. Had a 6 hour wait in the lounge at Doha before having to take a plane first to Bangkok and then another to Cambodia.
Finally arrived around 9 hours late (not accounting for time difference).
Also bags didn't make it on the plane so were delivered to hotel a day later so had to stay extra day at hotel waiting for bag and had to buy toiletries etc. as arrived with nothing.
What sort of claim do I have? Airline so far only offered USD$50.
Not sure where to start or if it is worth pursuing?
Many thx for any advice.0 -
