    Hi

I'm glad to see you've carried on using your thread, the nay-sayers get fed up after a while!

My DH and I decided to make a life-style change in February last year. It was hard getting family to understand, but I used the stuck record method of just repeating that I wasn't on a diet, I had changed my life-style in order to become and remain healthy. Having been diagnosed with diabetes, and having suffered IBS for years, I overcame both by cutting out white bread/rice/pasta, and tbh going over to a low carb life-style.

A site called SparkPeople has been my go-to source of tracking food and exercise. http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/tell_a_friend.asp
It doesn't cost a thing, and has an eating plan for managing diabetes. Preparing a huge salad for lunch at work in the evening has been a huge help. Substituting masses of veg instead of starchy items such as potatoes/rice/pasta keeps hunger at bay. Always having fruit or crudites handy to have instead of sugary snacks helps.

I'm not a saint, and SparkPeople helps me monitor my intake so that I know how far off track I've gone, and helps me bring myself back.

Hope that helps. I haven't read every post, so I don't know if anyone else is a fan or has suggested it.

    Thanks for posting!

Coincidentally, i came across that site the other day and found it fascinating.

I'm glad you found a way that works for you and your DH. It seems refined carbs are the work of the devil lol!! I know from experience that a low GI diet is good for PCOS and insulin resistance. Daska has contributed some great info on this.

Been grazing all day as well albeit on ok things. Had smoked mackerel and salad and vine ripened toms for lunch which was lovely at the time but the mackerel has been repeating on me something rotten!

Not just OK, great! :T You have done well given the family circumstances, and recent posts suggest you are moving forwards with understanding your triggers. You and Sophlowe are making solid progress IMO. :)

Some foods do taste different on day two or three as the flavours meld together - stews and curries often taste better. Should keep three to four days fine as long as you refrigerated as soon as it cooled from the first cooking. Split into portions, only reheat the part you intend to eat.

Yep - I split a portion of steak down last night, cooked one part in a wok with peppers, sweetcorn, spicy tomato sauce and some cooked brown rice for last night...the rest went into a BIG saucepan with onions, spinach, peppers, sweetcorn, green beans. On top, stock made with beef and veg stock cubes, tomato puree and a teaspoon of Marmite. Simmered for an hour and covered, will get another simmer tonight. My mouth is actually watering at the thought of it!

(no root veg or potatoes in my stews I'm afraid :rotfl:)

  • I did it again - completed my run! Yippee! Small but steady steps for this Oops!

Although I didn't feel great afterwards. I actually felt quite low albeit proud of myself! This is the kind of feelings I'd experienced after going to the gym last time I joined. Do you think it could be because of tiredness? I was up and down again in the night with little DS. I don't think I overdid it because i just did 5 min warm up then 1/3 minute run/walk then 5 min cool down.

Or could it be just because I'm new at doing it all?

I had some grainy toast and peanut butter about half an hour before I went out and a banana when i came in.

I've also had a small handful of almonds/sunflower seeds as a snack.

I still feel like I need a 'boost' with being tired - can anybody recommend anything? That's why I had the nuts/seeds. I'm trying to avoid carby things.

    Hope everyone is well!x
  • Well done Oops! :D I think feeling low might be just tiredness and new-to-runningness, I felt low after exercise when I was unfit.

I think you might need some more protein - I'd add an egg to the peanut butter and toast. (To be fair, I'd lose the PB - buuuuut only because it'd hospitalise me haha!). And maybe a little bit of cheese somewhere too.

Plenty of protein in PB - best if you get natural with no lalt and sugar though, and cheese is full of fat and quite high calorie.

  • I went and got weighed. I don't know why because it was at 7:00 pm after the days food/drink! I actually felt slimmer and a little healthier so thought it would be reflected on the scales...silly me! I know it's stupid, it's just another part of the whole issue i have with my self esteem/body image.

I'm feeling slightly under the weather today. Had a nap this afternoon with little DS. He is so poorly, bless him.

    Anyway, enough ranting!

    Hope everyone is well.x

A lot of it is going to be because you're new to it all AND you've got a double whammy because you're trying to change your diet at the same time.

You might find The Art and Science of Low Carb Performance an interesting read if you are of the mindset that you need carbs for exercise.

Have you done a multi-point measure? You may well be slimmer, muscle weighs more than fat!

Popping in to say hi and thank you to everyone.

Bought a big packet of crisps today as I was so hungry, my packed lunch did not fill me up at all! It was only vegetables with rice, I was sick of the Quorn mince which is still in the fridge. The vegetables were frozen, courgette, aubergine, tomatoes and some other stuff to which I added a pack of microwaveable rice. I had half last night for supper and the rest for lunch today with some 85% dark chocolate.

I had a few of the crisps as I was so hungry I thought I was going to pass out, but then threw the rest of the packet away.

I am having sea bass for lunch tomorrow, it was £2 for a whole seabass but it is the entire fish complete with its head and I have no idea how to gut it!

I've accidentally been gluten free for the past few days and today I realised my stomach had shrunk a lot. I just had some fresh organic rye bread with a cheese omelette and my stomach has bloated somewhat.

Thanks oopsadaisydoddle for saying it is ok for me to ask questions on preparing food on here even if other people know already. I was concerned my questions were taking the thread off topic.

Can you eat food that you cooked the night before for lunch the next day but cold? That is usually what I do but Fire Fox you posted about reheating food. Again, I am worried about doing the wrong thing.
