Why Is There Not Much Help For Binge Eating Disorder (and if there is, where is it?)

Bought a big packet of crisps today as I was so hungry, my packed lunch did not fill me up at all! It was only vegetables with rice, I was sick of the Quorn mince which is still in the fridge. The vegetables were frozen, courgette, aubergine, tomatoes and some other stuff to which I added a pack of microwaveable rice. I had half last night for supper and the rest for lunch today with some 85% dark chocolate.
I had a few of the crisps as I was so hungry I thought I was going to pass out, but then threw the rest of the packet away.
I am having sea bass for lunch tomorrow, it was £2 for a whole seabass but it is the entire fish complete with its head and I have no idea how to gut it!
I've accidentally been gluten free for the past few days and today I realised my stomach had shrunk a lot. I just had some rye bread with a cheese omelette and my stomach has bloated somewhat.
Have some eggs, dairy, nuts or seeds if you are fed up of Quorn: as already explained you need protein and fat to fill you up and provide a balanced diet, not carbs with a side of carbs. Be careful with blaming gluten when there are numerous compounds in wheat and related grains.
Fishmonger will prepare the fish if you ask.
Really they should have asked if you wanted that doing. Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Agreed Soph, you're eating far too many carbs and not enough protein or fats! I'd have put some tofu or chopped beef of chicken in with the veg and rice.
Good luck with the bass! It's really nice!

Hi all! It seems we have all come down with this bug. My DD and me are poorly now too :-(. I feel like I did when they were first born with lack of sleep.
Little DS was nearly admitted to hosp last night as he wouldn't drink or wee but luckily I managed to get him to drink and he ended up going to the loo so they said we were ok to stay home. He also has a nasty ear infection poor thing.
Needless to say, I have been eating convenience stuff, although I haven't over eaten. I plan on doing my next run tomorrow and then a walk on Sunday.
The difference is that I haven't got a big dose of the guilts for eating convenience. I know it isn't great, but I realise there is absolutely no point in beating myself up.
I hope everyone else is good.xx0 -
Oh no! Hope you all recover soon Oops!

Get well soon oopsa family!
Hope all is well with you all this weekend. You sounds more at peace and in control so that's a good thing.
We can all support each other.
I've been more mindful of not stuffing too much crap down my throat since this thread started!0 -
Thanks everyone! My living room looks like it has been turned into a bedroom...blankies and pj's everywhere.
Just going to try and chill this evening.
@Jox - I'm really pleased this thread has helped. I often think overeating is such an overlooked, taboo subject - somehow 'less acceptable' than other destructive behaviours like drinking or smoking.
I really hope we can all help each other. I shall definitely keep posting.x0 -
Hello oops, I just wanted to say I think the same as you, there is no support because people look at you as if to say "just eat less, stupid!" but its not food its the emotions behind it. I have the Paul McKenna book someone else recommended and in there he mentions that its not even the same as drinking where people can 'go cold turkey' - we do NEED food so its not something you can cut out and go without but instead we constantly have to face it.
About a month ago my binging reached its peak and I could eat a packet of biscuits and not notice, or 4 packets of crisps or 5 slices of bread etc. Not even being hungry sometimes, just had the urge to eat. I live alone which is good and bad, good because I only have to buy in what I am deciding I want to eat, but bad because if I am feeling weak I can eat what I want in secret.
Two weeks ago I decided to give up all sugar-added foods and bread (my binge foods) for lent - I told everyone I was going to do it and because lent is not something I can give up and restart on Monday if I binge on the weekend its somehow made my resolve better. Leading up to lent I also removed those things from my cupboards that I don't want to eat and I wont buy any more until I feel in control. It's worked so far!
Wishing you the best of luck, its very hard and its something that a lot of people who don't struggle with food find hard to understand xxProud meowmy of four fuzzy cats

((hugs)) Oopsadaisy. Convenience food is there for times like these, it's fine to have it sometimes the human body can process that. Just congratulate yourself for not binging when you are feeling tired, stressed and sick, that is an achievement!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Or a bulimic?
Why is it different then, just because I don't purge after?
I didn't take the things of MIL - they came with the kids. And yes, once they were there, I ate them.
I agree about your analogy to likening the situation with a drinker...the difference is, if a drinker asks for help - they more often than not get it.
I don't buy stuff for me. The things I have mentioned have been gifts. In fact the turkish delight was a gift for someone else until I ate it.
I totally agree!
At the end of the day an alcoholic may be addicted to drink, but they can still live without it....difficult as it may be.
We can't take the same view with overeating. We can't just completely turn our backs on food...we need it to survive! I know I overeat and it would be easier not to bring the stuff into the house, but sometimes life just isn't as easy as it sounds xx0 -
Hi all!
Well had a bit of a bad weekend - still poorly so haven't been dressed, let alone out for a run!
The Oops children seem to be on the mend although not 100% so we have been cocooned in the house.
I have also been overeating. Constantly picking - trigger for that seems to have been boredom. So tiredness and boredom are something for me to keep an eye out for.
I feel a little low about it but realising I can't change what's happened and also trying to keep hold of the yucky feelings I got when overeating!
Hope everyone else is well.xx0
