Why Is There Not Much Help For Binge Eating Disorder (and if there is, where is it?)

hi oopsadaisy, sorry you're all still ill, hope you all make a speedy recovery soon!
I'm still consciously "trying" to eliminate and avoid sugar from my diet as I know it was leading me to making bad food choices and contributing to my anxiety and stress. I'm not doing 100% perfectly but I'm at least happy that I haven't been helping myself to chocolate and crisps and cereal bars at work, and am making more of an effort to eat protein and fat which are filling and satisfying.
I'm reading as much about quitting sugar as I can for inspiration.
Here's a blog with one person's experience of quitting sugar by following an 8 week programme.

When you're tired and bored Oopsa, can you nibble on some nuts instead??0 -

I think I may have to get Mr Oops to lock everything away.
I do buy nuts - have almonds and hazlenuts at the moment and I do snack on them. Thing is though my overeating mind doesn't stop at a small handful.
Like i've said previously, I am never 'emotionally full'. I am going to join the Beyond Chocolate forum. There is lots of support on there for people who have issues with bingeing too.
My ultimate aim is to become healthy and have a healthy diet and to be happy in myself. I believe the principles behind Beyond Chocolate and Beyond Temptation are something that may help me with the self esteem issues.
Today is the first day that I've felt ok. I have been for a little walk. Not far but mainly for fresh air. Going to aim for run tomorrow.
Thanks for posting. Hope everyone else is ok.xx0 -
It's good you have a plan oopsa, better than carrying on with the same behaviours and feeling out of control with no solution.
I had a good day yesterday, had toast and peanut butter for breakfast, green teas and water at work, couscous and raisins for lunch, rye crispbread and peanut butter and almonds for snacks....I stood next to the chocolate and crisps at work several times and stayed strong and didn't have any!
I got home and had a banana then went to the gym! I haven't felt able to go after work for a long time due to feelings of low blood sugar, dizzyness, exhaustion....did an hour cardio (will do more weights next time).
Back at home I had a 1 banana, handful of spinach and 3 strawberry smoothie and water and then bed an hour later.
I'm proud of my small victories anyway!
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Jox, you need to eat more protein hun...you'll waste away on that

Thanks heartbreak, it wasn't a typical day yesterday....I usually go home and am ravenous and have a big dinner (the night before was chicken, rice and veg), I didn't feel hungry last night for a change

Mmmmm...chicken

Good to hear though, I do worry

haha, you're sweet, if you saw me you wouldn't worry, I have plenty of meat on the bones, more to spare
I just want my head to feel good and clear and to stop thinking / obsessing about food and my weight

Hi all.
Had a hectic day today. Eggs and toast and vine toms. Also had some hazelnuts and I (although not sure) feel like they make me bloated. Yesterday and today I have had the pregnant tummy look and I am uncomfortable like i was when i was pregnant.
Going to skip the hazelnuts tomorrow to see if that makes a difference.
Hope everyone is well.x0 -
TBH it's more likely to be the toast than the nuts. There's nothing in grains that you can't get from other sources and plenty of people (myself included) live grain free due to the gut problems it gives us. Agriculture and the resultant grain heavy diet is a very, very recent development in evolutionary terms. And modern wheat is substantially different to what we were eating even 50-60 years ago - modern strains are much shorter and higher in gluten. Funnily the incidence of coeliac disease is rising...
Try cutting it out and then see if you have a problem with the hazelnuts. Replace with some veg instead - spinach is a great with eggs and very quick and easy if you buy the frozen stuff.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
