Why Is There Not Much Help For Binge Eating Disorder (and if there is, where is it?)

I'll be nicking some of your meal ideas soph, sounds very yummy and healthy!
I'm feeling ill, got a cold and lost my voice, was very tempted to lie in bed and comfort eat but I'm at work and having a green tea, I'm not hungry to be honest.
Here's some good tips:
http://getupandgetmoving.net/2013/03/jill-knapp-5-tips-that-have-made-giving-up-sugar-eaiser/
1. Eat three meals and three snacks in between your meals each day!! For many people, blood sugars drop if you don’t eat often so people feel hungry and will be craving sugar.
2. When cooking use Spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom will naturally sweeten your foods and will really help reduce sugar cravings.
3. “Get Up and Get Moving” Zumba, Body pump, do what ever makes you happy but get in your exercise.
4. Address your emotions. If your using sugar to hide from your emotions or numb your emotions stop. Deal with them and do what you have to do to de-stress. If your emotions are all over the place sugar cravings will for sure be there.
5. Clean our your pantry!! GET rid off all sugary snacks, candy. If it’s not there you won’t eat it!!0 -
And to add to that - eat more protein and less white carbs

Here's a blog a lady in New Zealand started last year, she had lots of health issues and wasn't able to fall pregnant (I've been trying to conceive since 2011), she gave up sugar and by day 118 was pregnant, let's see if I get the same happy result

Sorry to keep banging on about giving up sugar but I think the binges might stop if I get this addiction under control.
I bought krispy kreme donuts for my team today to celebrate a birthday, I haven't eaten "mine (yes I know, don't buy it in the first place!)0 -

Ooh that would be fantastic news if there was a baby Jox on the way! I agreed with sugar thing too but it is sooooooo hard to give up - it is like a drug with the lure of a 'hit' and the fabby taste!!
I think the thing about this is not to beat yourself up about doing things right all the time. I have accepted it is a learning curve and that there will be trials and tribulations along the way.
Keep up the good work! X0 -
Hi, I have read most of this thread with interest and would like to join you guys please. I too have Binge Eating Disorder (am a compulsive overeater).
I have had addiction issues for many years and after a hard fight I finally became alcohol free in 2007 and have not had a drink since. The food is proving to be even harder. I have tried the same 12 step approach and OA meetings but they just don't do it for me. Like the OP I have tried it all - self help books, ww, sw, slim fast, over exercising, rewarding myself, weighing daily, personal trainer etc as well as my 12 steps and OA meetings.
I do find Paul McKenna's 'I can make you Thin' helpful but I can only follow it for so long before my head feels like it will burst unless I get a release - a binge. It has got to the stage I binge almost every night. Sugar is certainly the main culprit but from my previous experiences I know that I need to sort myself out mentally and spiritually too. Chatting on here would be helpful too.0 -

Welcome Allie! And well done!!!:T on the alcohol busting!!
You are not alone here, that's for definite. I think we all might find different approaches might work for each of us but I think the support and 'understanding' of what we share will be great.
None of us has a magic cure but at least if we can report back if we find something successful it might help others. And if we have 'bad' days, we know we can vent here in the company of others who have been there.
I'm so glad I started this thread...I found all of the negative 'get a grip' comments quite frustrating but I realise that there are always going to be people with that attitude. There are obviously many of us affected by this!
Hope everyone is well.x0 -
Thank you to all of the lovely ladies who replied to me (which took a bit of courage to post) and hello to Allie - i hope we can all help one another.
I actually found posting made me not want to overeat that night so i am going to try to keep reporting my progress. Yesterday was a relatively good day and today has not been great nutrition wise (i ate quite badly really!) but i haven't had a binging episode which can only be seen as a win!
The last two mornings i've had porridge with protein after my one hour session of HIIT (i do this with a group at college at 7.30am!) and i think early morning carbs after hardcore exercise might help to fend off the eat everything munchies later on in the day.
Today i nearly binged at lunch time, i had ryviitas (four, possibly two too many!) with peanut butter and then moved on to muesli which i definitely didn't need to eat but limited to having in a cup instead of a massive bowl!
At around 5pm i was hungry after all of my shopping and had a chicken wrap and some more chicken.
Zumba class at 6pm for an hour and then for dinner i went round to some friends where we did homemade pizzas with salad (i genuinely barely ever eat pizza, literally can't remember the last time i had it but as it was a social, make it and eat it thing i joined in!) Two glasses of wine! Very naughty!
BUT i haven't had a major binge in two days. My aim isn't even to lose weight, it's to stop this eating when i'm not even hungry nonsense! Hope everybody else is doing ok- please do post progress! xxx0 -
Well done ashley, sounds like a day of nutritious eating and lots of exercise. I too just want to eat when I'm hungry and not because of any emotional reason. I want to be in control and not feel that food dominates me.
Glad we can all support each other.0 -
Even seeing junk food on TV is bad for me.
I can binge eat while watching supersize vs superskinny.
I just watched the latest one and the energy drink made me really want to have a fizzy drink, so I had berocca in water (and a 150g packet of crisps).
All that pizza too!
Amazing Allie that you are now alcohol free.0 -
I made kale crisps last night and they were really nice! If I want to binge, I can now binge on veg haha!
