  • Hello Gandalf!

Well done for losing 2 stone over the last 8 months, that's great! As you get closer to your goal weight, weight loss does slow down, it even seems to stop for a few weeks at time before picking up again.

You could try adding an extra exercise session in a week to see if that helps? As long as you are sticking to your healthy diet though you should continue to lose the weight gradually. It's better to lose it slowley anyway, there is less chance if it going back on :)
    hi there

over the past 8 months ive lost 2 stone. i started at 15st 11lb (phew!) im 5' 11", and had done NO exercise for 10 years (walking to the car was about it!). i started my regime by kicking chocolate last november & lost 6 pounds JUST doing that!!! (amazing), then took up body combat and body pump at the local gym in dec 06, and am still going (pump 2 to 3 times a week, since i heard that resistance training is better for calorie burning.., and combat once a week). so, yes, i suppose i am a bit pleased with myself, but do have a question ;)

im now at 13st 10lbs, eating more healthily than i ever have before, but seem to have hit a plateau. at 48 im not expecting a six pack (but i do now have a two pack appearing!), but am doing well with the fitness stuff, so would like to keep the progress going - so is it just a question of training every day?... or more aggressive dieting... im not obsessed, but would like to clear maybe half a stone, most of which resides around the waist.

    many thanks for your time

    Hi

    Thanks for your kind offer.

I have been using my excercise bike for around 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Is 20 minutes long enough (I'm trying to burn fat), as most articles in magazines etc always seem to mention 30 minutes. Also, am I overdiong it by going on the bike most days? Should I be having a break at any particular interval? Also, should I be changing the resistance while I'm exercising? I just set it at 4, get on, pedal for 20 minutes on 4 and get off again (no warm up or cool down etc).

    Thanks
    Emma

What a great thread and well done to Parallel Universe for being so helpful to everyone! :T

Right my turn, after I've just buttered you up. :D

I'm not overly concerned about anything but I would like to lose about 5lbs. Tops of legs and bum, I think. It just won't shift!

Saying that, I don't really exercise and eat too much choccie. :D:D

So could you PM me an exercise plan that I could do at home. I have several exercise dvds at home as well as some dumbells.

Hope you had a great Bank Holiday. :)

I would up it to 30 mins and start the reststance at 3 for 5 mins as a warm up, do 20 mins with it harder at say 5 o6 6, or more if you can manage it, and bring it down to 3 again for the last 3 minutes for a cool down. It is fine to use it on most days :)

Hello! There is no way I can give you a detailed exercise plan without meeting you, checking your blood pressure first and so on but assuming you are healthy, I would advise you to exercise 3-4 days a week to begin with, at least 30 mins each time doing something that makes you sweat. Your exercise DVD's would be ideal as well as anything such as a bike or a treadmill if you have one, or how about a brisk walk? I would use your dumbells for doing some upper body weights such as bicep curls, and some lunges or squats 3 times a week as well and this should help.

    Hope that helps!

Hiya missus! Need more tips!!!! Ive taken your excellent advice, and bought an exercise dvd, which im really loving doing I have to say... Only problem is, theres a section of it on toning up your tummy, which i need, but when im doing the sit ups, my neck is really killing! Whats the best way to stop this happening? looking straight up at the ceiling, or, as ive always done, tucking my chin in to my chest?

Well I'm 5'6", size 12, normal bp but as I said, would like to lose about 5-6lbs off tops of legs and bum mainly using dvds at home and dumbells, if any of that helps. Thanks for giving me a head start. :)

  • No! Never tuck your chin into your chest this is bad for you neck, always imagine there is a large orange between your chin and your chest and this will give you the right sized gap you need to leave :)
