Hello! It sounds as if you have your exercise pretty much under control, what is your diet like? You will be saving lots of calories by cutting out booze (assuming you used to drink much that is!) - do you still eat sugary snacks? A structured diet like weight watchers would really compliment your weight loss - you can join up online and weigh yourself at home to save thier meeting fees if you prefer. They offer two types of diets which you can try. I would give them a go.

Let me know how you get on :)

    Hi,

Thanks a lot :D:D I might just have to try weightwatchers. My diet's not very good at the moment, to be honest. I eat salad but am struggling to eat veg, it's really not going down brilliantly. I do eat sugary snacks, which I know are bad for you so I'm cutting down on them and eating grapes, nuts and carrots in place of most of them but still have the odd few. Booze was the main thing. I'd go out once or twice a week and drink lots of alcohol - alcopops, lager, spirits - at least 12-16 units a session!!

Thanks for your advice I will defo look at weightwatchers now :)

Hiya! How much should I be looking at spending on a decent pair of trainers? And what 'features' do i need to look for when shopping for them?
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

  • Hiya Parallel_Universe, was wondering if I might join your brilliant thread? :D

I find it really hard to motivate myself when I go to the gym - some days I feel like I could do loads but other (more oftent than not!) times I get exhausted after 5 minutes and feel like giving up. I try and go 2 - 3 times a week but lately I've been really struggling - missed a few weeks when I was away with work, and now just feel shattered every day when 5 o'clock comes round :(

Do you think a personal trainer would help? I was talking to one of the PT's in the gym changing rooms tonight and she was so friendly, I'm really thinking about it now...

She charges £20 an hour  BUT with 10 sessions you get one free. OH has just treated himself to a Nintendo Wii at over £200, so I'm thinking perhaps it's my turn!

What do you think? Would it get me results? I'm still looking mainly at weight loss, I've lost a stone since Christmas but I've got another 1 1/2 stone to go yet :o

Also do you think the price sounds about right? I'm in West Yorkshire. There are 3 other PTs who work at my gym and they all have an info poster up, they all charge £20 p/h.

    Thanks for listening :)

How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on... when in your heart, you begin to understand. There is no going back. There are some things that time cannot mend... some hurts that go too deep. That have taken hold.
  • It's not really about the price but the fit, go to specialist running shop to buy trainers to run in and get fitted properly - I guess around £50 is right for most people. Do you have a shop like Up and Running or another running shop near you?

If trainers are just for walking/gym use then any trainers you like the look of will do.

  • It sounds like one would really help you yes, I know with a lot of my clients motivation (or lack of!) is the main reason why they see me!

A good trainer will put together a program for you whereby you can see measurable results (as long as you stick to their plan) plus they can show you new and fun exercises that you might no have though of on your own! Also having someone to chat to does make the time go much faster :)

Would a personal trainer be able to do a meal schedule and exactly what to eat? I have no problem with motivation when it comes to training but food is my main problem.. I just get bored.. cook 2 chicken breasts and brown rice or hit the Chinese take away?? mmmm....

  • Hi PU,

I am really enjoying this thread as I have little motivation when it comes to excercise.

Have got the healthy eating thing started ( used to go to SW ) and have lost 11 pounds in 4 weeks, but have not got the excercise mastered.

Have plenty of time on my hands now, long story, so have cleaned the dust off my yoga dvd and yanked the trampet out of the shed. But really need to know what to do on trampet and how long for. Any suggestions ?

I would up it to 30 mins and start the reststance at 3 for 5 mins as a warm up, do 20 mins with it harder at say 5 o6 6, or more if you can manage it, and bring it down to 3 again for the last 3 minutes for a cool down. It is fine to use it on most days :)

Thanks for the advice. I've been giving this a try and my legs feel much better with the warm up (should have thought of that myself really!). Fingers crossed increasing the time will burn the fat quicker!!:T
  • A good personal trainer should be able to provide you with a diet to follow, yes :)
