Hi - just like to add my thanks for this thread - it is great.
Apologies if I've missed any tips you've already given for this but I'd like some advice on getting rid of my fat rib.

I'm 5'6, weigh about 9 stone, and have a ridiculous body shape. My legs and arms are skinny and toned but my belly and ribcage is slightly more well cushioned. I know you can't spot reduce but I'm despairing really. The more I work out the skinnier my legs and arms become and the more out of proportion I look. What can I do? Should I change my diet?

Currently work out (cardio and weights) at the gym about 3 times a week for an hour each time. Diet is healthy and balanced.

    Many thanks
  • Hello there

Well, at 9st you are a very healthy weight for your height so I don't think you need to diet really - I think maybe you just have to accept that this is your natural body shape? The only thing I can suggest to help tone your mid-section would be some exercises for core strength such as Pilates - maybe give a few classes or a DVD a go and see if that helps?

Hi Thanks again for this thread what a great help t will be to a lot of people.

The advice I need is I have bought 20 gym passes because if I join I never go and is a waste of money.
I aim to go 3 times a week in the morning before work, what can I do in about 30 mins for maximum benefit. I am not overweight about 9st4lb and I am about 5ft5inch - I just need toning. The problem is that I HATE THE GYM, but I know I have to do something, my gym has a pool and they do classes, which is fine, I just would like some advice on how to use the gym to my benefit - and get to enjoy it. Oh I forgot to mention - I am crap at cardio - so not lots please.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • I've heard all these celebrities that don't eat after a certain time at night. Does this help? I take it because you are less active at night your body can't burn offthe food you put in late? I don't finish work til 6pm,7 by the time I get home. Is this too late to eat my main meal?
Also what type of sit ups are best for getting a toned belly? I can't shift my "pot" on my lower belly, under my belly button.
  • Hiya

Without meeting you and seeing what you have in your gym I can't prescribe you a full program so I would advise you to book an appointment with a gym instructor at the gym to make a program for you - tell them you wish to concentrate on toning rather than lots of CV and they will be able to help you - hope it goes well!

  • Hi

It doesn't really matter TOO much if you eat late it's more about the quantity of food - obviously a huge meal an hour before going to bed will not be ideal!

Eating around 7 - 7:30 is fine - how about having a lighter meal in the evening and a larger lunch?

There are no magic sit-ups to get rid of pot bellies I'm afraid just healthy eating and regular ab work including sit ups - have you tried Pilates?

    Hope this helps :)

Hi, that would be a mixture of cardio work (e.g. walking.jogging/swimming/cycling) and some specific arm exercises such as bicep curls with weights, or exercises such as push ups to tone the arm muscles. Good luck :)
