Hi. First posting on this thread and looking for advice.

I am a female and have gained a lot of weight over the years. Have been watching what I eat since January and have lost about 1.5 stone. I joined a David Lloyd in April and have been trying to maintain a weekly visit of around 3/4 times. Mainly gym but sometimes swimming. However although I am definately toning in areas (arms, top half, etc) the weight is not coming off on the scales. Could it be that I am eating more from the excercise and therefore counteracting the weight loss side. The weight has not gone up but is just not moving.

Hi K1mmie, just wondering if you're still losing body fat but gaining muscle? Muscle is heavier than fat as I'm sure you know, and could explain why the scales don't appear to be moving. Is there any way you can track your body fat and muscle percentages (I know some gyms will do this for you)? Well done on the weight loss by the way :D
  • hi, great thread by the way. I just wanted to ask, how long do i really need to work on getting a 6 pack or as close to it as possible? I do have a beer belly and at 6 foot 2 i weigh around the 16ish stone mark maybe a touch more. I have big legs which are quite muscley and a big build its just my man boobs and belly i want rid of. Ive started running to combat it but wondered how long it might take me to achieve it seeing as ive given up beer and started to eat better. Motivation is my worst thing but my holiday in the sun is 12 weeks away so i was hoping that will keep me going :D

No-one is a lost cause. The basis of weight loss is to use more calories than you take in. I would seriously scrutinise your diet, portion size etc for starters. Then try to squeeze in some more exercise each day. Be it another walk, fitness DVD, Yoga, Pilates etc.

Toning up your arms, waist and belly would benefit from the aforementioned. But to speed things along in both toning and weight loss, I would recommend weightlifting. Get some weights in the house and a demonstration DVD and do light weights with 15-20 repetitions.

A pound of muscle burns 4 x more calories than a pound of fat. Therefore as well s burning calories whilst actually doing the exercise, your metabolism would be burning more calories all the time.

    Sorry!!! lol

You could use things such as tins of beans etc rather than weights, if you didn't wanna splash the cash.

Although I think you can pick up cheap sets from places such as Argos. My Missus has a dinky little boxed set which gather dust in my garage. You don't need heavy weights for toning.

Oh and as far as the stomach goes.....Diet and crunches would be a good start. A swiss ball is especially good if you have one as you have to keep your core muscles are under tension for longer periods.

Even a press-up circuit would be free and a good starteer point for you arms.
