Thanks once again John! You have been a massive help on my little RAF mission so far.. :)

Right, i've got some weights upstairs, so I will get them out and start building up some strength.. also, gonna get on with some girly press ups now

    Lol that's nps.

Let us know how you get on with the inital sets and then we can see what could be adapted to best suit your needs.

Right, I did 10 girly press-ups.. went ok.. wasn't easy tho ! :o I must be really unfit!

I did 10 sit ups aswell.. I'm ok with sit ups if I tuck my feet under something like the sofa, but do you have someone holding your feet or not?

I'm leaving running for another day, when i've lost a little more flab! :p

Going to go swimming for the early bird session tomorrow.. :D

Good work on the (girly) pressups, G-G...in my (limited) experience just keep on doing them and you'll get better...

I'd also recommend using the weights for some bench/chest presses if you can - this is a very similar motion to the press up, so should help...

Ten girly press-ups is your starting point...You should do these in the morning and if you can manage again at night until you can do them easily. Then you want to try to progress onto full press-ups. Bearing in mind that you only need 11 to pass the FT, you should aim for 3 x sets of full press-ups each day/2nd day - But you need to work up to this.

As far as sit-ups go - You need 32 to pass. You will have someone sitting on your feet and need to do 32 in one minute. Again, just do what you can to get a base figure and do these in the morning, try to achieve more each day. I would advise you to aim for at least 40 in one 1 minute sitting - Again, you will need to work up to this.

Running is important to improve your cardiovascular fitness overall. But gentler exercises like cross training, swimming, step machines etc, will aid you in burning of calories and pounds. A lot of people shy away from running as it is the hardest exercise to 'cheat' yourself on - As a consequence of the effort running requires, I find it the best cardio exercise - Although it does impact on your joints if you overdo it. Start slow and build should be your motto. But don't miss out running completely.

Is that where you lay on your back and lift the weights vertically up and down?

    Thanks for the support :)

I'm going to do a set of 10 first thing, mid afternoon, and last thing. So 30 in total to start with, and then up this. I might set out a schedule or something to aim towards.?

Sit ups i'm not too bad with, and if I had to i'm sure I could squeeze 30 out! :p especially if someone is sat on my feet.. :)

Running I need to master.. I was getting quite good at it about a year ago, but then I stopped, got a bit fatter and have since struggle to be able to go jogging at all. I was never a pro at it, but I was going out every other day doing cross country for about 1-2 miles and getting better pretty quickly.

I might go to the pay as you go gym and start doing some running, weights, cross training etc.. along with the swimming, and maybe a bit of dog walking and cycling thrown in.. :D

Thanks John. I'm looking for something I can use to get feedback on all activities really, not just running. I'll keep looking. If only they did a 'petite' version of the one my friend has

Agree with you completely about the calorie counts and I've found most equipment to be far too generous :rotfl: I would still like to have this facility though, because I do so many different things and it would be useful to see which activities are theoretically burning more calories than others. For example, how does an hour's skiing compare to an hour's cycling, or if I jog with a friend we can compare numbers afterwards - even if it's just to say "that's a load of rubbish!" :D I'd never take the calorie numbers as gospel but it's useful to have a guide :)

Hi G-G (how did John know your name is Gemma?!) Good luck with your fitness training! You sound very dedicated so I'm sure you'll do great!

I've been for a run today, 5km, second one this week. I'm still a running newbie though :)

Sounds like a good start for the sit-ups and press-ups.

As for running, use the same build up slow approach. Here's a programme I just searched for you:
