  • Start with 10 minutes and work up to 20-30 - and as for what to do??? Just bounce! One foot at a time, both at the same time, swing your arms, anything you fancy really! Put some music on and go a little mad :D
    Hi PU,

I am really enjoying this thread as I have little motivation when it comes to excercise.

Have got the healthy eating thing started ( used to go to SW ) and have lost 11 pounds in 4 weeks, but have not got the excercise mastered.

Have plenty of time on my hands now, long story, so have cleaned the dust off my yoga dvd and yanked the trampet out of the shed. But really need to know what to do on trampet and how long for. Any suggestions ?

Hiya! How much should I be looking at spending on a decent pair of trainers? And what 'features' do i need to look for when shopping for them?

For your first pair, I'd go to a specialist running shop. They will do a gait analysis and recommend what you need, i.e, support, stability, motion control etc. Nobody can really tell you until you go to get fitted.

I think with a decent pair of trainers, you shouldn't be adopting an MSE attitude. These things are going to prevent injuries. I prefer the ASICS brand, and I am a moderate over pronator. They cost me about £80. But you can get a decent pair for about £50-60.

I'd look out for last years models in the sale. Just as good. But not something ridiculous like £100.

Avoid ebay, and buying on-line until you know precisely what you need.

    Hi Parralel_Universe,
just come across your thread and would be grfateful for some advice. But first let me tell you about me.
I am male, 43yrs 5'8" med build and have virtually no fat around my legs, bum, arms face or neck, and weigh 15 1/2 stone. However I have the sad misfortune of having a huge belly.
I visit the gym 3-4 times a week doing light weights. I run 12-16k's a week on a treadmill, and cycle for 60-80 mins a week.
Why can't a get rid of the belly?
for the past 10 years I have drank a small fraction of what I used to.
Are there any exercises you can recommend for me to get rid of belly?
    Cheers
    Lic.

    HI Parallel_Universe,
Your thread idea is great. I'm back at ww now and trying to lose weight again. I walk the dog every day (I try to do 2 walks with her of half an hour each) and I go horse-riding once a week for an hour. I also try and get to the gym twice a week when I can. My question is after having a cold how soon can you exercise? I have had 4 colds so far this year and it is really impacting my weightloss as I haven't made it to the gym.
    Cheers

I would start with 10 mins on the bike, 10 mins on the elliptical trainer 3 times a week. Make sure you warm up with an easy 5 minutes on the bike to begin with, and 5 minutes doing the same to cool down after your workout - so 30 mins in total. Hope that helps!

    Hi Lic

Unfortunatly there is no way to spot-reduce fat, you just have to let your body burn it wherever it sees fit I'm afradi! I would try to increase the length of your runs and the amount of time that you cycle for as these are the real fat burners, and of course be very careful with your diet. These should all help you to lose body fat which will come from all over, including your belly. Good luck with it :)

As a general rule, once the cold has left your chest and you no longer sneeze or caugh you should be fine to exercise again, but the best rule to go by is simply how you feel. Once you are feeling back to your old self again then it's usually fine to get back to exercise.

Alwyas take the first week back really easily, maybe doing just half of what you nromally do and if you feel fien after the first week, go back to normal the following week. Good luck with getting back into it!
