  • That kind of adventure is excellent for your overall fitness levels, more of that will stand you in good stead for your RAF training :)
I wouldn't mind having a go at the brecon beacons some day, a long way off fitness wise yet as I was wanted to jog/walk/crawl them :rotfl:

Yeah, Brecon Beacons are meant to be very tough!

Really enjoyed it, just wish it didn't chew my feet up so much  But, everything does, so i'll just get used to it.. I put plasters on as a precaution aswell, but because my boots got waterlogged they just came off eventually. ooops. Apart from that I managed just fine.. I much prefer downhill tho :o

OH kept saying, come on, imagine you are out on exercise  It worked tho :D

Know it may sound daft but are you wearing the right footware? It would defo be worth investing in some real military boots from an Army Surplus store and spending a few quid on them. The rule normally is the more they cost, the kinder they are to your feet  Gortex ones are waterproof to and extremmely vomfy to wear. Also a cheaper alternative is the insoles you can buy. I had dicky feet so spent £16 quid on one set of insoles  May sound crazy but believe me they were incredible, it was like walking on sponge they really are that good I never had problems after and the training staff don't mind as they are Army issue when you're lucky enough to get them through injury. :D Cant remember what they are called exactly but we called sorbathanes(sounds like that anyway ha) and are well worth the money and although a slight cheat on normal recruits you aren't doing anything wrong you are just more prepared then they will be but will have an advantage
Sorry for waffle that was a lot to get out :p

Even found them for you :) Trust me your knees, shins and feet will thank you for them ;)

    Oooooh, they look nice :)

I've got gortex boots, but the water was so deep it unbelievably spilled over the top.. :( We all had decent boots on and all got soaked... at least I wasn't the only one.. ;)

Mine are Karrimor I think, they were £70 ish.. OH's were £100 ish.. but we were thinking of waterproof socks next time maybe?

I think we were unlucky with the ground, looks like it had been raining up there for a few days/weeks and so the ground was such so wet it was silly..

I do seem to get blisters really easy.. maybe it's my socks? I just wear normal socks.. :undecided

The gortex socks are good although pricy. I doubt your socks will give you blisters, some folks feet will always blister. Best to check for the old wives tale remedies that squaddies use on selection for SAS for a fix to that, there are all kinds of ways you can apparently harden the skin to combat them but I have never had them so I wouldn't know :p Good job they don't do a lot of tabbing on RAF or you would of been in for some trouble, still good if you can get your feet and muscles in general ready for the training as that is a much better preventative then fixing things that will go wrong on the course :)

Edit- just a thought, some of my lads used to wear a pair of thin socks under a pair of thick socks so they would rub on the thin ones more instead of your skin might be worth a try? I hate wearing two pairs myself but as I say never had a problem apart from the aching so it is another way of preventing your problem before it happens.

    Thanks GHE.. ;)

I guess it's just trial and error.. When I did Pen-y-Ghent last year I got blisters, and every long walk past 2miles ish I seem to get them. I don't think my socks help, and also I don't think I do my shoes up tightly enough, which is probably not helping.. :undecided I'm just going to have to try various things. Might stick a post on here tomorrow to see what people recommend :)

I think i'm going to make myself go out on the mountainbike tomorrow to keep my muscles working, otherwise i'm going to stiffen up and be in pain for a few days. :o

Also, going to have to start running.. that may help my heels to stop blistering.. ? more wear and tear on them shud make the skin toughen..

Today has really given me some much needed inspration to keep getting fitter.. it was so nice to really push myself, come back home and really feel like I achieved something :D
