G-G there is a difference between someone saying they are unfit and making an effort to DO something about it as you are, than someone sitting on the sofa just THINKING they need to do something about it ;)

I swam 100 lengths in under 90 mins a few weeks ago, I know I could do more, but even 70 (my 'usual' distance) is quite boring :rotfl: so it'll be a while before I go for the next milestone there, if ever :p

Misspointy - is there any pattern to when you find the runs harder? Times of day, too soon after the last run, too soon or too long after a meal, that kind of thing? Maybe even certain times of the month (for females).

Certainly no harm in going back to basics if things are not quite right for you :) Maybe work out what's more important to you (shorter, faster distances, or longer endurance-type ones) and then look at some established advice and training plans as a guide?

Above all, I'd recommend training and running using a method that suits you personally, not because it's what the book says or what someone has said you 'should' do :)

Oooooh I love this thread, it so inspiring! :p

Thanks missyg - your wise words have comforted me lots :D it's easy to get disheartened I guess, especially when you feel like you arn't ever going to get where you want to go.. :o

I've got lots of hard work ahead of me, but if I perservere and work hard then I will finally be able to class myself as fit! :j

Not sure what i'm going to do today.. I'm out for lunch with mother in law, we have both been stuck at home alone since OH, bro-in-law, father-in-law went motorcycle camping in Scotland.. they are back tomorrow, but we decided to get together and do lunch.. Going to try to be sensible.. :D

I have a confession though.. My head tricked me into eating Haagen Daz last night :o It said "It's Friday, have a treat and then the new week can start tomorrow.. " - I obviously didn't fight it hard enough.. :( Oh well, I enjoyed it, and now I have had my little blow out and can concentrate on being good until next friday!

Had a slim fast shake for breakfast, I actually like them :) and they don't bulk me out first thing like toast or cereal does.. :)

Thinking of going out on the mountain bike this afternoon, then dog walking, then skipping.. My thighs are aching from all the dog walking yesterday, must have walked nearly 4 miles. :D

Anyway, if you are still reading this, you deserve a medal.. :p

I enjoy this thread too, it's always good to have like-minded people to talk to, instead of boring the pants off people who aren't interested in exercise! :rotfl:

You don't need to deny yourself foodie treats, even when you're trying to be sensible life is still for living :D My biggest weakness is crisps, I shop monthly and I buy either 1 or 2 Walkers baked multipacks of 6, and when they're gone they're gone... which is usually in the first week :rotfl: I never feel deprived because I know there will be some more the next month :p

I've been back at the pool today, wasn't planned, but my son wanted to go so why not :D We went on the chutes and all sorts - so lots of stair climbing and good exercise all round I think. We were there for ages, probably about 2 hours!

I was going to do an hour on the cross trainer tonight but I think I might leave it at that for today and just chill out now :)

Got lots of housework and gardening to do tomorrow, so that should keep me busy.. oh and the obligatory dog walk.. they don't take no for an answer.. :rotfl:

He's 9, and very very active! I need to be fit to keep up with him!

Hope you're giving yourself a rest for this evening Gem! I'm pretty tired too, it's been a little more intense this week than normal, but it's all good!

I do have a few bits at home yes! I decided my dining room would see more use as a home gym than as a dining room ;) I have a cross trainer and exercise bike, also a lateral thigh trainer (might get rid of this in favour of a treadmill before the winter months), couple of gym mats, rowing abs exerciser, set of small weights, set of larger weights, a few DVDs and a wii fit :D

I consider this very money saving compared to gym membership, and I love the convenience :)

mmmm that sounds like my kinda dining room i've got to say!

I was thinking of getting a treatmill, one that was reduced from £500 to £250 on Amazon.. The way I see it is that the gym is £6 a time + plus travelling across town to get to it.. (the only pay-as-you-go one), and then it's a 2 or 3 hrs out of my day. All I want to use is the treadmill, everything else I can do at home really..

I might make OH get me one like he said he would :)

Exactly. Kitting out my gym cost the equivalent of 6 months gym membership round here - and that's "off peak" membership whereas I can use my gym any time, and more than once a day if I feel like it :D It is easy to justify the money as long as you use the equipment.

I also wouldn't really be able to go to a gym during school holidays either, so that was a major consideration as well.

I still get to go to a proper gym every now and then, either with guest passes or special offers. I've got a day pass now actually but I'm waiting for a rainy day to use it :D We have a pay as you go one local too, but it's £25 induction  I know I only have to do that once but I'm not in a big hurry all the time there are other options.
