My OH drinks protein shakes religously. He used to use creatine and stuff but has stopped all that now I after I told him off for putting rubbish in his body:o
He says that is the only way to build muscles.
If you don't like meat have you ever tried soya beans? You get them frozen in Tesco and they are a bit like a cross between a broad bean and a pea. They are really nice and really high in protein while giving you a portion of fruit and veg. You just boil them like peas from frozen.
Going back to gym with the OH tonight, dread to think what he has in store for me! I was quite happy plodding along with my little 5k jogs before all this training together started!0 -
Maybe a protein shake if you arn't into meat etc..? & a little bit of pasta for the carbs.. wholemeal pasta is better than white..
Processed 'white' foods such as past, rice and bread spike your blood sugar levels more than the unrefined wholemeal equivelants. This has the effect of making you feel hungrier sooner and aids overeating.
As a rule of thumb, if you eat any of the aforementioned...Buy the wholemeal stuff.
If you wish to build muscle, I think you need to add protein to your diet. I too ate far too much carbs, but have started to watch more carefully now and replace a percentage of carbs with protein. Once I have lost any excess pounds I will be adding 2 or 3 protein shakes a day to my diet.John

Also have you tried weightlossresources? It is a really good website, you can sign up for a 24 hr free trial and enter all your food into there (it has every food for sale in the UK, branded and otherwise) It is really easy, then it shows you a graph of how much protein and stuff you have taken compared to what you should have.
It doesn't need to be just used by people wanting to lose weight but anyone who wants to see what they are eating!
(sorry if it has been mentioned before)
I sign up for a new free trial everyday (they don't ask for credit card details) I use the same email address but a different username.0 -
Thanks everyone. Will take a look at recommended sites. Without going in to too much detail I have IBS lol. Beans for me are not bowel or ppl friendly even though I do like them. If I have bread, pasta or rice its always brown...but it bloats me. (rice doesnt)...its ok if not eaten regular, so pasta and bread I will have at most once a week.
Chicken, turkey and fish are ok for me.....guess Ill have to eat more of those. Not a big fan of eggs either.
Damn I sound a whingey woman. Im not honest!!!!!0 -

In that case tuna is good for protein and really easy. A nice tuna salad with something like ryvita (I find less bloaty than bread) would be great.0 -

haha - aww bless! You don't sound whingey..
I love fresh salmon fillet with a lemon and a lime squeezed over it, with a little zest grated on.. some red pepper, spring onions and a bit of garlic or chilli flakes.. tastes yummy, and no high fat sauces or oils used..
I agree ryvitas are nice but without bloating..
What about cous cous? not sure how you would go with that? It's easy to make and you can add veg to it aswell to liven it up a littleBSC Member 155

Great stuff today John - what's on the fitness menu for tomorrow then?
I'll probably do another bike ride & run but a different distance combination and different route. I'll have a look on Map My Run later.
