I have a Billy Blanks (the tae bo DVD manny) DVD. It's the one with the rubber tubing, the name escapes me. Basically the rubber provides tension instead of weights. The living room just isn't big enough to jump around doing it in, so the DVD has gathered dustJohn

Wow this thread has taken off, I go out for a bit of exercise and there's loads to catch up on!
I like the wii fitOn a light exercise day or a rest day, it's ideal just to keep things ticking over - better than a workout DVD in my opinion. I see it very much as secondary to my other stuff though, it doesn't compare to a thorough workout and I don't expect it to. Hopefully there will be other releases in future which will be more challenging! There is a wii fit thread if anyone fancies joining in the detailed chat there, comparing scores etc
Well done on workout number 2 today John! I am back from my cycle & run:
15km bike ride 42:18 mins
5km run 31:46 mins
With the running time please allow for the fact that it's only my 6th run ever, and my first time combining those two like thatI wasn't racing, I just wanted to do both without stopping or walking.
My son is doing a "mini marathon" at school soon so I will be out helping him train later.
Lovely day to be outdoors exercising!0 -

So, if my arms are aching from exercising yesterday, should I still do some weights today?

Hello Parallel Universe, very kind of you to offer to help. I am reasonably fit and run occasionally and go to the gym and spinning classes regularly. I am 5 3' and about 61kg. My concern is that my arms seem really week. When I go to an exercise class where we are required to do push ups or raise ourselves up sideways on one arm, I am absolutely rubbish!
What can I do to get stronger? I already do weights on the machines and have been doing so for a year but I don't think I've managed to get any stronger.
I have this problem to. Im not that strong and its my muscles that give up way before my lungs do. I dont do a great deal of weights but do exercises like push ups etc. Im a tad on the scrawny side, very lean arms, protruding ribs.
I wonder if its to do with diet? Im a fruit and veg kinda girl.....not big on lots of carbs or protein. I doubt if my diet refuels my muscles enough to stregthen them.
What do you think guys and girls?0 -
I'm no expert but I was on Wikipedia last night learning about muscles - due to me wanting to suss press ups! It was saying on there that protein is essential for repairing and rebuilding the muscle.. and a little carbs aswell, but I think that's more for endurance and blood sugar levels.
Maybe a protein shake if you arn't into meat etc..? & a little bit of pasta for the carbs.. wholemeal pasta is better than white..
I've been trying to up my protein and cut back on carbs, generally i'm a carb junkie, so it's been a total change ..BSC Member 155

Is a helpful link for you.
I know the general bloke's recommendation for protein intake is 1.5 g of protein for every 1kg of body weight. But I assume this is based on 'real' body builders.
Think of carbs as petrol in a car and protein as bricks in a house. Carbs give you energy and fuel your body. Protein is required to build muscle and indeed prevent muscle loss.John
