The continuing saga of my (comedic) love life!

I've had a genuine heart to heart with some male friends over this weekend (and some female) and there was a common theme that they feel men don't know what to say to me so they don't bother and most people think I'm with someone already. In fact, it was me going to the party alone which made people aware of the fact that I'm single and then I got all the usual questions (how long? Why? Etc) followed by the pitying looks and reassurance that I'll meet someone when I least expect it.
The jist of advice I was given was that I'm going to have to make the first move.
But, I'm actually ok! Events of this week have shown me that I'm ok being single at the moment. I don't want someone just for the sake of it. I'll be single until I meet someone worth not being single for.
I just wanted to give you a laugh!0 -

Come on people - give the Lady a break!
Miss Indepentant were you really looking for advice? Us singleton's know all the "advice"... we get it shoved down our throats by anyone and everyone who believe that there is something wrong with us because we won't settle down with the first person who comes along.
Continue to enjoy your life and be amused by the the goings on! It makes for an entertaining existence.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -

Thanks, LadyHawk . No, I was just sharing my funny experiences! I don't see how people on here can really give me advice as they don't know me in real life so can't tell me why men don't seem interested in me. And at any rate, I actually feel in a good place right now so I am fine.
In a way, I can't really understand what people mean when they say I'm making myself a freak show? I don't mean to. I didn't choose for a strange man to send me a Valentine (I avoid him as best as I can as he is too full on). I couldn't help it that a guy I thought was nice was an awful kisser. Ok, I danced with some elderly men but I was only being nice (as were they) and why should I spend the night sat twiddling my thumbs. I had a laugh!
Should I have settled for a man who was happier sleeping with other men or the one who slept with my best friend?0 -
To be perfectly honest, you don't sound like the nicest of women really. In one short post you have managed to insult a huge amount of men who have been interested in you. Yes these are older men but why are you hanging around that age group and then expecting 20-30 year old men to approach you?
You have called one guy halitosis-ridden, another like being licked by a toilet, completely insulted a guys fashion sense, a choice of hairstyle of another and god knows what else. Do you expect guys to be lining up knowing how insulting you are likely to be? I don't know what you look like but maybe you're not quite the prize either? Even if that's the case then personality can go a long way and you're not covering yourself in honour here.0 -
oh come on...don't we all have opinions about other people? aren't some of our opinions less than lovely? and if someone's breath was difficult to stomach. i don't see it as insulting - more descriptive!0

Wow - that's harsh!
I actually think she sounds nice. Who hasn't described someone by a feature that isn't neccessarily their most favourable.
She was trying to be lighthearted.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Robin TBW I think you're taking this thread far too seriously. I think miss_independent just wanted us to smile at her expense on a sunday. She was getting things off her chest too, probably, not insulting people to their faces for no reason.
Anyway, you carry on OP. I'm just off to throw my hands up with Beyonce ... #all the women, independent ... #Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -
Disagree Robin! I think the OP sounds quite a catch. Miss Independent is just putting a comic slant on her experiences. I think she comes over as warm, funny and empathetic. it's more likely that men assume she's already taken or there's no point trying.
Have you tried online dating? There have been some spectacular successes amongst my circle (and loads of material for your new career in comedy/autobiography! :rotfl: )
I was single for many years and really fancied speed dating. Unfortunately, I met the OH before I could get round to doing that.
(unfortunately as in I think it would have been fun, of course not unfortunate that I met my fantastic partner)0
