Hi , Would I Be Able To Claim Back Charges From A Bank That I No Longer Have An Account With?

Hey,
I graduated in 2002, and unfortunately had 4 accounts (in addition to my main account). I was stupid in my 1st year at uni, opening the accounts for the "free gift" offers for students.
I was constantly being charged for going over my limit by minor amounts - particularly the Halifax. I remember they used to charge around about £50 per transaction, £25 for doing it, £25 for writing to me to tell me I’d done it.
When I started work after uni I tried my best to close these accounts slowly, one at a time focussing on the most expensive first. This process was made harder by the harsh fee's I kept getting charged each month.
I managed to pay off and close the last account in 2005. Could I still claim back the fees even though they are closed now? I'm not even sure I have the statements; they weren't a nice reminder to keep hold of.0 -
A couple of years ago, i feel into debt with my Natwest account (helped in no small way to the bank charging me for the priviledge), the bank then set up a loan to cover the amount over my overdraft, and set up a monthly figure for me to pay the sum total back.
After 12 months or so of paying this fee, i finally paid the full amount owed. The bank then closed my account and demanded that i return my cashcard and chequebook.
Is there any way for me to retrieve my account details and then possible claim anything back from the bank? I believe that they treated me unfairly (as i was unable to work at the time and the loan total came to an amount almost twice what i owed) so any recompense would be particularly sweet for me in this case
Any help would be appreciated0 -
Navidson, the answer is yes, and boy have they made a mistake in doing that. Try sending a Subject Access Request. If they fail to provide the details or fob you off then I will tell you how you can tell them to get it. It is 100% successful. I am an expert on getting the numbers and it appears your account was open prior to 2002, so even better, i am rubbing my hands in glee.0

This is still on my 'to do list', but thanks for letting me know that i can do it although the account is closed.
I discovered we were paying interest on 3 out of 5 of our credit cards (hubby handles the finances! Yeah know I should have paid more attention, but I thought he had it covered.) Anyway, have now moved our K30 c/card debts around & managed to get most on interest free for 13 mths (waiting for one statement to show zero balance, then I can move the rest back onto interest free). Have saved us £14000 in potential interest & reduced the debt free date from 58 mths to 34mths :-).0 -
