The definition of democracy being elected members of a parliament voting on parliamentary business.
I'd obviously prefer it wasn't secret, as I'd quite like to see those UKIP and Tory MEP's who will no doubt vote against passing this lower budget held to account for their blatant political mischief-making.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

So, despite the French receiving wonderful agricultural subsidies, they have been getting meat from Romania to make up lasagne for Sweden, Germany, Norway, UK, etc etc. You couldn't make it up!
Who knew that cheap ready meals were cooked up in France, and who knew they were so popular all over Europe?

I know there is no proven health risk to eating horse but I remember the furore surrounding our beef and mad cow which gave rise to bans, imposed on us, on all exports for years.
Should we blocking all imports of any beef processed dishes or raw/frozen meat form the continent until this is resolved?
A popular burger chain recently admitted that hamburgers sold at its restaurants in the U.K. and Ireland contained horsemeat They insist that other than the improved taste, it never knew the switch had been made, but we’re not so sure after seeing these…

LOL. Bitter at a success story.
You remind me of that old Militant Tendency lot that used to work against 'right wing' Labour Governments in an attempt to prove that only their brand of Socialism worked. Anything bad news is good, right comrade?0 -

Re Moby's point, I thought the EEC was not allowing Countries to join unless they met EEC standards. Now it seems anyone can join, and it's up to the "richer" countries to subsidise them. Unsure if we can afford that any longer.0 -
......and you remind me of the peasant looking up at the Lord of the manor being grateful for any crumbs that come their way. Its not a success story I'm bitter about..... its unfairness! and being governed by people who have absolutely no idea what its like to be in my shoes!
That's a ludicrous argument. People are empathetic: they can understand how others live without living like others.
By your argument, nobody could ever be fit to govern as they can't understand the range of human experience. It's a nonsense.0 -

Let me explain.....some people are empathetic...others are not. I'm a socialist because I aspire to certain values. I believe tories primarily are governed by self interest. Also its not just about being empathetic...its about doing something about your understanding. Posh boy Cameron mixes with people who are like him....he chooses his friends and political allies because he understands them and what they represent and where they come from.
That's obviously rubbish. If it was true then no Conservative Government could ever be elected as they would appeal to such a tiny part of the electorate that they would be lucky to get more than a couple of seats. Instead they have been the most successful political party over the last 2 centuries in the UK.
Thatcher wasn't 'posh', Major wasn't 'posh'. Blair was 'posh'. This is just a nonsense, something to justify your blind class hatred.0 -

Lol I highly recommend the Ignore button, it was designed for users like Moby since you can ignore him safe in the knowledge you won't be missing out on anything remotely insightful.
Amusingly, I see from your quote that his idea of an insult is to call people posh boy, tory, or right wing. It doesn't seem to have occurred to the pea-brain that anyone who was those things wouldn't take it as an insult. A tory doesn't feel insulted by being called a Tory lol. And posh people are more than happy to be called Posh :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

So how do you regard Richard Branson. A keen supporter of the Labour party under the previous Government?0 -
Read my two posts again. I was reporting what I found to be surprising – that "The leader of the Conservative group of MEPs ...said on Radio 5 that he expects it to be defeated in the European Parliament" – surprised in what he said, when he said it (just after the announcement of the budget agreement), and the matter of fact way he said it.
It was not said as some sort of call to arms to stop ‘jonny foreigner’ conspiring to snatch back ‘our’ victory – but as what seemed to be a sober assessment that the Parliament would almost certainly defeat the budget agreement.
