How much of a problem is that though? It's just a turn of phrase like, "I could have died laughing", or "Blimey" or "Struck dumb".

You can't get yourself upset by every little turn of phrase or you'll end up having kittens [joke] at the slightest comment.

I think I am just a bit anal though. It annoys me when people say 'I turned around and said xxxx' because they clearly didn't turn around at all :rotfl:

But that's what I mean. Anyone I know who was slightly chubby at puberty is still chubby. Don't get me wrong, some have lost massive amounts of weight, but they have all put it all back on, including me I should add. I really mean that I don't know anyone (people on strong medication excepting) who has managed to change their shape for any real period of time. People have gone up and down a few pounds, or stones, but everyone has balanced back into what their body is most predisposed to. I don't know ANYONE who, if naturally predisposed to putting weight on, has managed to maintain a lifestyle that allows them to be a size 8 when their natural stable weight is a 12-14 say. Even if they've managed to be a size 8 for a while.

I can only think of two people. One was a girl from school who used to be around a size 16 as a 12 year old, and she was like that for the whole time at school. I bumped into her in a pub at about 19 and she was a size ten. I almost didn't recognise her, and when we said hi she turned to her friend and said 'Claire only knew me when I was fat at school' to explain why I must have looked so suprised. Ten Years later she's still that size so I guess it could have been down to her mum feeding her way too much as a child when she lived at home?

The other is a guy who I was friends with as a child. He was a normal skinny athletic kid now he's very overweight which I think is mainly down to alcohol on too many nights out!

But most people I know are pretty much the same size they've always been. Which is on the whole a normal weight.

all jokes are at the expense of somebody or some group. Quite why those people / groups feel like they should be exempt, while happily telling jokes about other groups is beyond me.

Ah come on, there are thousands and thousands of overweight middle aged people who were perfectly healthy as children. Thousands!

There are a lot of double standards, unfortunately. We aren't allowed to say a word about fat people but there is a lot 'skinny shaming' these days. "Real women have curves" is something fat people say which really gets on my nerves for two reasons. 1. They are saying they are more woman than someone who is smaller than them, which is just insulting, and 2. They don't know what curvy means.

there's quite a difference between being curvy, and being big though isn't there?
