  • Wow, it was just a bit of light hearted banter, god, have people lost their sense of humour? What has the thread about domestic violence got to do with anything?

Yes I am a bit overweight. So what, I am perfectly happy with who I am. I am relatively fit cycling 5 miles to work everyday, I just like my food!

My biggest downfall is baking, I am quite good at it. :rotfl:

I am also dyslexic and work quite hard on getting my posts correct.

Anyway if people are going to get all hyper-sensitive then I am sorry if I have offended anyone.

I don't get the hatred aimed at fat people. So they aren't to your taste? It isn't their duty to cater to your sexual tastes.

Before anyone brings up the argument that overweight people are likeliER to become ill, face complications and cost the NHS - I agree with that but that is a logical and economic problem, not an emotional one. Mocking fat people isn't going to improve their health and lower your tax bill, so don't try to pretend it's about that.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
  • Maybe underweight people are envious that overweight people live longer? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/24/overweight_live_longer/ Just a thought.
  • fat coke doesn't taste the same as diet coke - i prefer the taste of diet coke.

Off topic but I agree - I too never drink fat coke because it tastes rank compared to diet coke. Although I'd never drink, say, diet lemonade because lemonade without sugar tastes odd.

As for the OP's joke, it's a bit contrived but I don't see anything offensive about it. It's difficult to read, it's too wordy and it doesn't appeal to me because I buy cheap shampoo that barely promises to clean your hair (without any fancy volumising effects) - the premise is rather lost on me. OTOH, I'm not overweight so maybe there's something obvious that I'm overlooking...

Only 2% of the adult population of the UK is underweight. About the same percentage that are morbidly obese.

There is an awful lot of fun poked at fatties and I don't think underweight people can be blamed for all of it.

In my experience, it's usually men who poke fun at fat women, and they are never slender themselves.

Ah, but they don't see themselves as overweight. That's why male fitting rooms rarely have those fairground slimming mirrors like you find in the ladies fitting rooms in Next or River Island etc.
  • How about everybody just shuts up about people bigger or smaller than them and minds their own godamn business?

I've been tiny, I've been underweight and I've been overweight and I've been obese.

Larger women were hostile whilst I was small, expecting me to look down on them. Thinner women were spiteful all the time, they seemed to be the most threatened. Men were only arzeholes when they were in vehicles, so could escape away like little children.

It's about finding something to pick on the other person about, in order to feel better about themselves, whatever the size in question happens to be.

So the curves stuff is balls. So is the looking at a cake to put on weight. So is the nasty jokes such as putting someone's name up on the staff noticeboard for buying 17 packets of chocolate in a workplace offer, just as happened to me, thanks to a thin girl who needed to hate me because I was three sizes larger than her. Strangely enough, the guys at the workplace refused to speak to her afterwards. I didn't really react to it. But it was meant to hurt, even if she told the boss the guys reported to that she was only having a laugh.

Refrain from commenting upon weight issues and everybody's happy.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Having a laugh?! As I tell my KIDS if you are all laughing together, it's a joke, if one isn't laughing or finding it funny it has now become bullying.
Jojo, that sounds awful, I would hate to have that happen to me :(

Fat people jokes don't bother me per say, but then i am obese so i guess i dont mind poking fun at myself (its a defence mechanism that dates back to when i was at school-i found if it was me calling myself fat it didnt hurt as much as the bullies saying it).

It is easy to think thin people never get any stick, but my sister is naturally skinny but she's had people say the whole "real women have curves" thing as that's just as hurtful to her. She may be skinny but she's as much as a woman as i am.

That said, i never got bullied after i lost loads of weight, as i do feel being thin is still seen as the ideal body shape and people accept you more when you're thin. (damn putting it all back on-trying to lose it again now)..that said i have somewhat warped views on body shapes/myself so that might be wrong...its just how i felt about it.
