Just to demonstrate how your preventative steps might not be as watertight as you thought, courtesy cars are also sold as ex-demo's, and of course registered to the dealer, in this case AC.

So your car may have had hundreds of drivers too...(with those low miles they would have all been local runs to work/school/shops etc. whilst people's own cars were in for service/repair - just think how many speed bumps your car may have hit, and how many times the clutch was used etc.).

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

    Try harder next time.

Courtesy cars were Peugeot 107/207. Still waiting on the day that Arnold Clark puts a Peugeot RCZ costing £28k on the road as a courtesy car.
  • I've got a corsa as a courtesy car at the moment I'm glad I've never bought one as a normal car I could run faster than this one lol.

It didn't have many test drives in 4 months did it? I thought these things were in demand? If they were any good the sales team should have racked up more miles than that in it, fighting over who got to 'blast it' home each night. Unless it was laid up with a fault or waiting for spares?

    Also, £28k sounds a bit high;

I'm just trying to say that unless you buy brand new, you have no idea...

p.s. I used to work at a prestige dealer where we had much more expensive courtesy cars than that, really
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

You try hard to create issues that probably aren't there, but you must try harder at that as well as you're not doing well at all.

Comparing courtesy cars at a prestige dealer and an Arnold Clark Peugeot dealer - I guess you would argue that an apple is the same as an orange?

The link you give means what? £24,890 for what is probably standard spec? Mines had £2500 of options. It's two years later, what are you trying to compare?

I generally do buy new but the savings in this case made the decision to buy at 4 months old quite easy.

As for the other drivel - I won't comment on that as I would hate to burst your bubble even more ;)

    :)

Seriously though, you are quite right to buy a used car and make the appropriate savings. The only reason I challenged you is that you were 'getting on your high horse' a little regarding the OP not being as thorough as you, and I just wanted to demostrate that used cars, are used cars...

Why score out part of the quote - you really do think you are always right I guess.

Did you not see the smiley face and 'seriously though' immediately after my 'edit'?

If I'm honest, yeah, I am a bit of a smart a**e when it comes to Automotive Industry stuff, just entering my 25th year in the trade and seen most of this stuff a thousand times.

My intention here though is to help people primarily, I was trying to put Steph's mind at rest a little, and you and others were coming along trying to make her feel worse.

And your both trying to turn this into a p1ssing contest. Your later posts are in no way relevant to the OP, just trying to get one over on each other.

Alas this happens far to often in the motoring forum. :T
  • Tradepro you are totally right! I appreciate you helping me out and putting my mind at rest :) you must know your stuff!

I have had so many people telling me that I've done it wrong I don't need another person. I think I might just keep the insignia for life now (even though I am only 26) So I can never be this foolish again.

Unless of course I get a car from you Tradepro.

I will put pictures on of my car when I get it back probably early next week :)

Thanks for your kind words Steph, but there was no need, I'm happy to help.

I will say again though, you really didn't do very much wrong when buying your Insignia, so don't be put off buying for life!

That said, always happy to take your deposit ;) Just kidding x
