  • Different people would do it different ways, I suppose.
Depends on how pragmatic you want to be.
How about - finish off dinner, then announce that you're just popping off to the bathroom to brush your teeth and floss. Then tell him that you've got a new spare toothbrush for him, and you'll wait for him in the living room, with coffee. Do it smilingly.

If it's only a second date she may not have to worry about fixing the whole kissing thing.....just hearing that she's gotten him a spare toothbrush would probably make him run a mile!!!

So I am not sure that would work!!

I would probably turn round and say ooh what did you have for lunch, do you want one of my mints?! (but lightheartedly and a little jokily)

I don't think there is a way you can get round the whole bad breath thing without hurting someone. Maybe have a google and see if there's any tips online?

  • Not only did his breath smell like poo...he had definitely had Tuna for dinner :(.

that did make me giggle sorry hun.......... but he must be quite a catch:rotfl:
made me giggle even more when I looked at my signature .....;)
LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT
  • Does he have questionable hygiene in other areas other than just his mouth/breath? If a guy has bad breath/bad oral hygiene it usually means his general hygiene isn't much good either. And that definitely cannot/should not have to be taught!!

I've never got an odour from him before, body wise. He doesn't look immaculate, never smells of aftershave (I love aftershave on a man) but he never smells bad. Just the breath.
Oh wow I think I feel a puke coming on..... You've got a stronger stomach than me if his breath smelt like poop and you still managed to finish the kiss....I think I would have been running AND puking within a split second!! :(

As I say, mercifully it was extremely quick and caught me off guard! Although he did kiss me a few times :(.

Erm...:o...yeah I definitely know what turns me on in a man...:o

How would I let him know about the breath without hurting him?

Don't use the line that a friend of mine used (to another bloke)...

"Has somebody just farted or have you been eating dog sh*t?"
  • Oh, maybe give him another chance then! Tuna gives everyone cat food breath. Not a good thing to eat just before a date!

Oh hell. That's exactly what it smelled like. Poo mixed with cat breath.

    Gonna vom.

You may be entirely correct - I don't have that much experience. I know it should make a woman run a mile, but suspect that it may be a man's dream come true.

I'm vaguely basing it on the premise that men tend to be quite strongly motivated in certain directions. There's a scene from Frasier where he moans at Daphne about women using sex to get what they want.

Daphne retorts, "Don't tell me that men never use sex to get what they want.

Frasier frustratedly replies with "How can we? Sex is what we want!" :D
  • Just the way you're talking sounds like you are physically repelled by thinking about the kiss and everything that happened. It's pretty hard to get past that :(

I googled and came up with awful websites with people offering extremely bad ways to tell someone they have bad breath so not much help there lol!!

    Couple of things I read:

Find a way to talk about dental hygiene. The objective is to raise their consciousness about dental health. You should judge your conversation on how well you know the person.

    • I always forget to floss. My dentist says I should though, and I've noticed that when I floss regularly, I don't get bad breath as often. Do you floss?
    • Have you ever used one of those tongue scraper things? Apparently the bacteria that causes bad breath sits mostly on your tongue. Do you know how to use one? I've never tried.
Lead by example. Practice good dental hygiene in front of this person as much as possible, and act like you're assuming they do the same. After eating, for example, excuse yourself to brush your teeth. Carry some travel sized mouthwash and floss with you. Ask them if they want some.

Pretend you have bad breath. Say something like "Ugh, I have some weird breath right now. I haven't eaten for several hours, maybe that's why. Do you have any gum?" Sometimes this will make the other person wonder about their own breath, and perhaps use whatever remedy they give to you.

Like I said....not the best advice ever but maybe it could be adapted?!

When I was young my Mum used to always make chilli it seems on the night I was going out, so I must have always had bad breath, which explains a few things. Like never being able to pull....... ok there's alot more too it than that lol :D
These days I like chilli even more and eat it alot. So any woman whom I would get it on with, had better like chilli.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • Also found this on some godawful forum about telling people they have bad breath but hey it might help. Here the OP said it was so bad they thought the guy might have some kind of mouth infection. Someone answered:

Since you yourself mentioned concern about an infection, why not go the medical route? "You know, I've noticed that your breath seems to be really bad lately. I think you might have some kind of infection [here you can insert a story about 'this person I read' about who had an abscessed tooth or something that caused really bad breath]. I really think you ought to get it checked out." That way you've alerted the person without directly questioning their personal hygiene.
