Help, I'm having a problem with sorting green deal stuff. I live in a 1903 huge victorian style town house in llandudno, north wales. I am in a conservation area and i am not allowed double glazing. I think i might do it anyway... but it will have to be the hard wood sash variety rather than UPVC so that it doesn't notice! I definatley wouldn't get away with UPVC. If I was toeing the conservation area line it would have to be single glazing with draught excluders. What I am struggling with is finding an approved fitter / green deal assessor that will do this. If anyone knows of a company that would want to take this on I'd love to hear from you as my internet searching is coming up with london only firms. I'm desperate to get my house more energy efficient, and would love to take advantage of the green deal. Many Thanks Sheryl

In a conservation area, you might get away with fitting your sash windows, with very narrow double glazing sealed units; preferably with
"warm edge" units and fancy gases in the narrow cavity - but they do cost and the extra weight has to be added to the sash weights and the pulleys night need upgrading.
In other words it is part of a complete window overhaul.as most of your heat losses are probably draughts.
Does the existing glass add charm to the property, as the matching windows and their rippled glass, catch the light? .

If you need a do it yourself fix there is cheap cling film that leaves a stick gunge on the frame, when you take it down in the summer.
The more expensive option is to mount sheets of clear plastic magnetically over the existing sashes. That works as long as the windows are not so draughty, that the condensation can form on the plastic, when the draught cannot get inside the property (or the property occupiers have no extractor fans and dry washing on the radiators:eek:).

Hi a good tip is to put the postcode in here, this shows all companies that cover your area (not in any particular order) then try and show as many results on the page as possible then Ctrl-F and type in your telephone area code or near by ones and this should hopefully give you some local companies."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice? Back in November 2013 I had an assessment done for Green Deal/ECO and then got a quote for external wall insulation which the company suggested I did under ECO as they would get 83% funding. I accepted this and it was booked to start work in early February. February came and went and every time I phoned the company they just said that they were behind because of the weather or some other excuse. However, today when I phoned they said that their funding had been cut to 50% so they couldn't do the work under their original quote.
So now I'm left high and dry (but not warm), but I was wondering if it was possible to mix ECO and green deal i.e. could I take them up on the 50% ECO deal and then get £4,000 cash back through green deal? That would take me to roughly their original quote.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.0 -
Yes you can topup an ECO grant with a Green Deal Loan (thats how the scheme is designed to work) or you can just pay the difference.
You can get the Green Deal Cash Back and the ECO grant if the installation is fitted and completed in the next 3 days, so realistically no you have mist that. From the 1st April 2014 you can only receive the cash back or the eco grant but not both. See here it saysThe Government Cashback is separate to any similar
offers that may be made by Green Deal Providers.
You will not be able to claim Cashback for packages
of improvements that have a contribution from
Green Deal Communities and, from 1st April, ECO."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Hi I think i've decided to get a new boiler through the Green Deal,I understand that there are cheaper advertised rates than the Green Deal but I was listening to something on radio 4 that said on the face of it the green deal at 7-10%% seems bad but the advertised loans at lower rates by the high street banks have pretty tough criteria and it'd be better to get a Green Deal loan than damage my credit rating by applying for loans that i'm not going to get off the high street. I've noticed there is loads of green deal bashing on here but don't really understand why, i'm not planning on moving and according to the help-link site 'ways-to-pay' bit shows that rates other companies are 12-24% APR for a normal loan for a new boiler so the green deal seems pretty good to me. Have I got this completely wrong because I can't see any major downside.0

Hi,
Have been reading this subject with interest as my children and I live in an old end terraced house which is very cold and expensive to heat. Have already had my boiler assessed, but I do not qualify as my it is classed as efficient (even though it is now considered old). I was hoping wall insulation may be beneficial, however on reading the terms it says and damp it to be removed before hand. I was under the impression that the damp was due to the walls not being insulated as I have a major damp problem all along the outside wall. But, if this if is the case, that I need to remove the damp, anyone have any idea of how I go about it? Are there any grants available to cure damp? Any info greatly appreciated0 -
Just wondering is there anyone out there who has been able to have a new LPG Boiler under the ECO scheme....as far as I can see it is impossible to achieve.0

Yes a replacement LPG boiler is available under ECO but I don't know of anyone actually doing it. There are new guidelines coming out this week which will mean more ECO work will have to be done to people who are off mains gas grid from now on.
What you should do is talk to a green deal provider (they are the ones who have access to the ECO money) and they should try to find an installer in your area to get the work done."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

Can you advise where this information is going to be published?
Is there a date it's due to come out?

A full list of measures through ECO can be seen here on page 11
I've just re-read the document below and the new incentives are to come in 2015 (not an exact date given) not 1 April 2014 like the rest of the document so sorry about that.
See here page 24 its a bit technical but it basically means there will be more money available to an installer for Affordable Warmth customers who are off the mains grid.
So there is still money available through ECO for LPG boilers now its just they are creating new incentives in 2015."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
